Helio Castroneves fined for Edmonton incident

The IZOD IndyCar Series announced Monday that Helio Castroneves was fined $60,000 and placed on probation until the end of the season for his reactions to a blocking penalty at Edmonoton on July 25th.

Castroneves' freakout was one for the ages, as he refused to serve the penalty before the race was over and immediately ran and grabbed an IndyCar Series official by the collar as soon as he got out of his car.

Castroneves was leading at the time of the penalty and crossed the finish line first, but the win was given to Scott Dixon. Castroneves finished 10th.

While Castroneves' reactions were to be expected given the subjective nature of the call, he did cross a line grabbing the official's shirt. However, the attention that the IndyCar Series received was the most that it had gotten since May's Indianapolis 500, so I hope that IndyCar officials give Castroneves one of those novelty check sized thank you cards when he mails his fine check.
