Former WEC featherweight champion Uriah Faber made another definitive move up the featherweight ladder Saturday night by choking out top prospect Michael McDonald in the second round. Faber won the first round against his much younger opponent with a take down and by landing a few more strikes on the feet.

In the second round, Faber brought on the beginning of the end for McDonald with over hand right hands. The first over hand punch from Faber wobbled McDonald but the top prospect hung tough until Faber landed another one that sent the young fighter reeling backwards.

"The California Kid" sprinted after McDonald, swinging hard and, finally, simply pushing him to the ground. From there, Faber opted to forgo strikes on the ground and instead went for and ultimately sunk in a guillotine choke to force the tap out from McDonald.

Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz returns at UFC 169 to take on interim title holder Renan Barao in a unification fight. Cruz has not fought for about two years.

The champion was set to fight Faber for a third time before injuring his ACL. A subsequent re-injury kept Cruz out of action for even longer.

Time will tell if Faber has done enough to set himself up for another title shot. Is there anyone else you think Faber needs to fight to earn a shot?
