Astros manager: McCullers likely out until September

Don't expect to see right-hander Lance McCullers back on the mound for the Houston Astros until September, manager A.J. Hinch said Monday.

McCullers, who is 10-6 with a 3.93 ERA in 22 starts, went on the 10-day disabled list Sunday. He left Saturday's game after only four innings with the team has called a right forearm strain.

The Astros were the only team in the majors who had used only five starting pitchers this season, a run that will end because of McCullers' trip to the DL.

McCullers is the latest of several prominent Astros to go on the DL, although the others, infielders Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa, catcher Brian McCann and outfielder George Springer, are expected back on the active roster before September.

The Astros rallied for a 3-1 win Monday at San Francisco, giving them a 4 1/2-game lead over the Oakland Athletics in the American League West.
