Nevin Shapiro and a second source said this photo was taken at the booster’s 34th birthday party. From left to right are D.J. Williams, Jonathan Vilma and then-recruit Worrell Williams.

Miami booster Nevin Shapiro alleges he provided extra benefits to Worrell Williams and had illegal contact with the player – who was being recruited by Miami in April 2003. Among Shapiro's allegations:

Worrell Williams
  • Position: Linebacker

  • Rivals recruiting rank: Ranked as the No. 6 outside linebacker in the Class of 2004.

  • Miami career: None. Committed to the University of California. He is currently out of football.

• Williams was provided with food, drinks and entertainment at Shapiro's $2.7 million Miami Beach home during the booster's 34th birthday party in April 2003. Shapiro said Worrell Williams accompanied his older brother, Hurricanes linebacker D.J. Williams, to the booster's party.

• Shapiro said he knowingly broke recruiting contact rules when he spoke with Worrell Williams at the party. Williams was being recruited by the Hurricanes and would eventually take an official visit to the school nine months later.

Corroborating accounts

• Yahoo! Sports acquired a photo of Williams attending Shapiro's April 2003 birthday party.

In Shapiro's words

• "Worrell Williams was D.J. Williams' little brother. He was a pretty good high school linebacker in California. Miami was recruiting him, but not that hard. I knew there was some interest. But I knew he was a recruit and wasn't supposed to be at my party."

Contacted by Yahoo! Sports Williams said he could not recall visiting Shapiro's home in 2003. Informed that Yahoo! Sports had acquired a photo of him at Shapiro's residence, the player said the visit could have occurred while spending time with his brother, D.J. Williams. "In 2003, I was 17 years old," Williams said. "So I could have possibly [forgotten going to Shapiro's house.] I don't know. I didn't know whose house I was at. 2003 was my first time going out to Miami and visiting my brother. Just hanging out with my bro."
