New York Mets, San Francisco Giants announce Wednesday's lineups; Szapucki starts for NY
The New York wrap of their three-game road series against the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday afternoon.
First pitch is set for 3:45 p.m. The game will be broadcast on SNY in New York and on the MLB Network nationally.
Rookie Thomas Szapucki, a 25-year-old left-hander born in Toms River, will make his first career MLB start for New York, while Jakob Junis (1-1, 2.70 ERA).
Szapucki, who appeared in one game last season (14.73 ERA) for the Mets, was 0-3 with a 2.86 ERA for Class AAA Syracuse this season.
Szapucki, who was the Mets' fifth-round pick in 2015, has had a bumpy journey since joining the franchise. Her underwent Tommy John surgery in 2017 and missed the entire 2018 season. Then, after rising to Class AA Binghamton, the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
New York and San Francisco have split the first two games of the three-game set, scoring a combined 41 runs.
