New York Jets waive UWF QB Peewee Jarrett after concern from prior surgeries, Jarrett says

Peewee Jarrett's time in New York has come to a close.

A little more than a week after being signed by the Jets as an undrafted free agent, the former University of West Florida quarterback was waived by New York, along with two other players on Monday.

Jarrett was the second quarterback drafted or signed by the Jets during the NFL Draft plus the undrafted free agency signing period. New York also selected Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis in the fifth round of the draft with the 171st pick.

"Very thankful for the whole organization and this opportunity," Jarrett posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday. "The release stems from a concern with prior surgeries and my healing process."

Jarrett, who played two seasons for UWF after transferring in from Iowa Central Community College, threw for 2,989 yards with 32 touchdowns in 2023, adding 372 yards rushing with three touchdowns on the ground. He became the first UWF football player to record over 5,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing.

"No plan compares to the one God has for me, I will forever follow it to receive his blessings," Jarrett continued on X.

Two former UWF players who were signed as undrafted free agents a week ago are still with their respective teams, as of Monday. Austin Reed, who led the Argos to their 2019 Division II National Championship, is still with the Chicago Bears, while wide receiver John Jiles – a favorite target of Jarrett's – is still with the New York Giants.
