UWF Football: Quarterback Peewee Jarrett declares for 2024 NFL Draft after two years as Argo

A standout from the University of West Florida football team is looking to take the next step.

Quarterback Peewee Jarrett, who made a name for himself in two years as an Argo, announced on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Friday night that he is declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft. In the statement, Jarrett noted that it “has always been (his) dream and goal to play professional football.”

“Throughout my career, I have had plenty of trials and tribulations from leaving school to help take care of my late grandmother, to dealing with and overcoming multiple injuries, to being at (junior college) and praying for an opportunity like the one I received at UWF,” Jarrett said. “But I wouldn’t want my story any other way.”

As a senior, Jarrett threw for 2,989 yards with 32 touchdowns, while adding 372 yards rushing with three touchdowns on the ground. He became the first UWF football player to pass for over 5,000 yards and add 1,000 yards rushing in a career.

Over the course of two years, Jarrett had 5,708 yards passing, 1,134 yards rushing and 77 total touchdowns.

“He’s such a smart thinker as far as being diligent about things when I’m not around. … When you challenge him on things like that, and he does it, that’s a sign of maturity,” UWF head coach Kaleb Nobles said during the season about Jarrett. "To me, that means he was raised the right way. … Peewee’s a great one, man.”

Jarrett, a Des Moines, Iowa, native, spent a couple years at Iowa Central Community College before transferring to UWF.

If drafted, Jarrett would be the first Argo to be taken in the NFL Draft. There are a few former Argos under contract currently. Matthew Gotel, who went undrafted in 2022, is signed with the Seattle Seahawks as a defensive tackle.

D’Anthony Bell, on the Cleveland Browns, was the first UWF player to secure a spot on an NFL roster after going undrafted in 2022. David Durden was signed immediately after the draft this year by the Dallas Cowboys before tearing his ACL in training camp.
