York girls win Class B Southern title; York boys, Marshwood girls, boys advance to state

CUMBERLAND, Maine – Senior Cary Drake covered the 3.1-mile Twin Brook Recreation Area course in a first-place time of 19 minutes, 09.78 seconds, leading the York High School girls cross country team to the Maine Class B Southern Regional championship Saturday.

York scored 73 points and won the 15-team field. Lincoln Academy (83), Freeport (97), Cape Elizabeth (108), Greely (112), Yarmouth (126) and Morse (130) placed second through respectively, and qualified for the upcoming Class B state meet.

Morse junior Shealyn Brochu placed second in a time of 20:04.35.

York senior Molly Kenealy placed eighth (21:00.35), while sophomores Madelyn Hutchins (14th, 21:36.95), and Karianna Hultstrom (18th, 21:55.64) both placed in the top 20.

Other York runners included Madelyn Herman (32nd, 22:43.70), junior Audrey Drennan (34th, 23:00.46), and freshman Kaitlin Bloomer (44th, 23:56.27).

In the boys race, York junior Aidan Ring placed third in a time of 16:46.28 and the Wildcats placed second as a team with 62 points. Freeport won with a team score of 52.

Gray-New Gloucester (108), Lake Region (129), Greely (145), Lincoln Academy (163) and Yarmouth (163) placed third through seventh, respectively in the 13-team field. The top seven teams advance to the Class B state meet.

Sophomore Hayden Atkinson (13th, 17:46.29) and junior Hans Bakke (18th, 17:55.03) both placed in the top 20. Other York runners included seniors Ken Hermawan (21st, 18:06.15), Charlie Newton (42nd, 18:06.15) and Will Gardoqui (48th, 19:35.27).

McClellan, Rivard lead Marshwood girls, boys to Class A state meet

Marshwood senior Sarah McClellan placed sixth in the Class A race in a time of 20:57.69.

The Hawks placed fourth as a team with 146 points and advanced to the state meet.

Bonny Eagle (43), Portland (78) and Falmouth (80) placed first through third, respectively.

Other Marshwood runners included sophomores Maya Sanzone (21st, 21:58.46) and Ava Sanzone (24th, 22:10.56), junior Laura Horvath (45th, 23:32.06), freshman Emily Keith (56th, 24:21.68) and senior Ava Gilmore (71st, 25:25.85).

In the boys race, Marshwood sophomore Henri Rivard placed fourth overall (17:00.57) as the Hawks placed fourth as a team and will race in the Class A state meet.

Portland (44), Bonny Eagle (77), Scarborough (96) and Marshwood (197) were the top four teams.

Marshwood sophomores Noah Tessier (18:29.55) and Nate Kelley (18:30.39) placed 32nd and 33rd, respectively.

Other Marshwood runners included sophomore Liam Haggerty (59th, 19:30.16), senior Luke Dockham (68th, 19:46.85), sophomore Griffin Smith (71st, 19:54.98) and senior Joe Riddell (76th, 20:11.11).

Traip Academy's Abbott 13th in Class C race

Traip Academy sophomore Elise Abbott placed 13th with a time of 23:22.59.

The Rangers placed sixth as a team with 134 points, one spot short shy of qualifying for the state meet.

Other Traip runners included sophomore Hayden Bouffard (27th, 24:27.64),senior Angelica Grillo (35th, 25:34.50), sophomore Rowan Rhodes (36th, 25:43.02), junior Sadie Latchlaw (38th, 26:01.89), senior Samantha Saiauski (59th, 28:50.65) and sophomore Layla Kerr (62nd, 29:18.26).

In the boys race, Traip Academy junior Camden Cyr was 16th (19:50.50). Other Traip runners included senior Connor Maurice (58th, 22:17.48), sophomore Sam Reiss (65th, 22:27.25) and senior Caden Cerone (70th, 22:58.14).
