Yellow Jackets take series win over Lee
Apr. 2—THOMASVILLE — In a tough three-game series, the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets took two out of three games from Lee County. The Yellow Jackets played very well in all three games and ultimately outscored the Trojans 12-4 and shutting Lee out in game one.
Central took game one on Wednesday with a 2-0 shutout victory.
Head coach Ryan Strickland felt the Yellow Jackets played well enough to win the second match up, the first in Friday's doubleheader. However, they couldn't find the gaps in Lee's defense, hitting into several double plays that didn't help their chances at victory.
Central dropped game two 2-0. The Yellow Jackets bounced back in game three with a vengeance, however. They routed the Trojans in a 10-2 stomping. Central had double-digit hits in the game and held the Trojans to just three hits with 10 strikeouts.
"I thought it went really good," Strickland. 'I'm pleased with the way the boys are playing, the way we're pitching it and fielding it and everything else."
Out of four region series played, the win over Lee gave Central their second region series victory. The other was a three-game set against Veterans in which the Yellow Jackets took game one and three.
"This time of the year taking two out of three every week is your goal because with playoffs coming up that's what you're working towards being able to do," Strickland said.
The Yellow Jackets have several non-region opponents left on their schedule, including Walton and Chiles who should provide some good opposition headed into the playoffs. Central will face one more region opponent in Northside this season.
Central shouldn't have much trouble with the Eagles as they currently sit in last place in the region at 0-12. The series win over Lee is a big one as the Trojans currently hold third, just above the Yellow Jackets who sit at 5-7. Lee will face the ever formidable Houston County Bears in their final region series and that could pave the way for Central to take the third spot in the region.
Houston and Tift County have already clinched the top two spots in Region 1-6A.
