Yankees' bad luck continues as new injury delays Giancarlo Stanton's return
For every piece of good news the New York Yankees have received on the injury front this season, it seems they’ve been hit with at least two tough breaks in response.
That was the case again on Wednesday. Shortly after catcher Gary Sanchez was activated from the injured list, manager Aaron Boone revealed that Giancarlo Stanton’s return will be delayed by a new injury.
The Yankees designated hitter has fully healed from the biceps strain that sent him to the injured list on April 1. While that’s encouraging, the bad news is that Stanton’s left shoulder is now sore. The new ailment required a cortisone shot, which guarantees he won’t return on the team’s current road trip.

The Yankees had hoped Stanton would return to the lineup next week in Arizona. Instead, he’ll be rejoining the team in Arizona to resume his rehab.
With a rehab assignment likely, Stanton’s return will be pushed back until next weekend at the earliest. That’s assuming his shoulder responds well. At this point, we’re sure Yankees fans aren’t assuming anything when it comes to player health.
Stanton appeared in only three games before his injury. He reached base nine times in 17 plate appearances with seven walks and four strikeouts.
Another Yankees outfielder goes down
After the Yankees 6-5 win against the Angels on Wednesday, the team also announced that outfielder Clint Frazier will miss 10-14 days with a tear in his ankle.
Frazier originally suffered the injury on a slide into second base during Monday's 14-inning game against the Angels. The Yankees scheduled an MRI on Wednesday when Frazier’s swelling had not subsided.
The setback for Stanton and injury to Frazier mean the Yankees will remain severely short-handed in the short term.
Over the weekend Aaron Judge joined the expansive list with a “pretty significant” oblique injury. Judge will be sidelined indefinitely. The Yankees are also without ace Luis Severino, reliever Dellin Betances and several key hitters, including Miguel Andújar, Didi Gregorius, Greg Bird, Aaron Hicks and Troy Tulowitzki.
Despite the tough luck, the Yankees have won seven out of eight and are 13-10 overall.
