Looking for a way to learn PGA DFS without jumping in with both feet? Then I have a perfect solution for you. This year Yahoo and Yahoo Fantasy are offering a $10,000 Freeroll called the “Yahoo Cup.” This contest awards a winner for weekly events and one winner at the end of the season who has the most cumulative points. That winner will receive $1,000.

Ultimately, it comes down to picking the right golfers. Today I will provide my top three value plays based on Yahoo salary, a couple of lineup fill-ins, and then I will finish it off with two different lineup variations of how to start building your lineups this week.

Top Three Values for The Players Championship

Andrew Putnam ($20)

Quietly one of the hottest players on the PGA Tour, Putnam has put together six pretty impressive starts. It all began at the Desert Classic, where he came in 21st. Since then, he has three top-10s and two other made cuts. Putnam is also the minimum salary this week and will provide plenty of chances to get in your favorite star players.

Emiliano Grillo ($20)

It has been a bit of a topsy-turvy year for Grillo, but the last two weeks have looked much better, as he finished in the top 25 in each event. He doesn’t have a long ball off the tee, relying a bit more on his ability to find the fairway at a higher rate than normal, which helps his stronger-than-average approach game. Another top-25 here at almost the minimum salary presents some great value.

Jordan Spieth ($31)

Putnam may be one of the hottest golfers on tour, but Spieth is the absolute hottest golfer on the planet right now. He has four straight finishes inside the top 15, including three top-fives, all at different types of courses. From Pebble to Riviera and Bay Hill, Spieth has performed admirably on all of them. His salary is also below many golfers that he’s playing way better than right now, so utilizing him as the best $30-plus value should help you create some great balanced lineups.

  • Christiaan Bezuidenhout ($28)

  • Jhonattan Vegas ($20)

  • Tony Finau ($40)

PGA DFS Yahoo Cup Lineup Builds

Aggressive Build

If you want to trust that you’ll be able to get three golfers at the minimum salary through the cut, then this strategy could really pan out if you can pair them up with the three studs that performed the best this week. Given that the average player budget remaining is $46 per player, you can get virtually any three studs in one lineup except for Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson.

Conservative Build

Taking only one of the min-salary golfers and pairing them up with Spieth and Bezuidenhout still provides plenty of budget to add in some big names. In fact, in my lineup, I still have two guys with salaries over $40. Use this strategy if you think the top-end golfers will underperform this week.
