WR Tre Mosley out, Houser and Leavitt both to play for Michigan State against Nebraska

EAST LANSING – Michigan State football’s injury issues continue to grow.

The Spartans will be without three starters Saturday against Nebraska, with wide receiver Tre Mosley, left tackle Brandon Baldwin and tight end Maliq Carr sitting out the noon kickoff (FS1).

In addition, Interim head coach Harlon Barnett on the pregame radio show said redshirt freshman Katin Houser will start his fourth straight game, but he added that true freshman Sam Leavitt will play.

Right guard Geno VanDeMark is expected back after missing last week.

Mosley injured his left hand making a catch during the third quarter of MSU’s 27-12 loss at Minnesota on Saturday. The senior has 28 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns.

Michigan State receiver Tre Mosley catches a touchdown pass in the first quarter against the Richmond Spiders at Spartan Stadium on Sept. 9, 2023 in East Lansing.

Baldwin limped off the field after getting rolled into late in the fourth quarter against the Gophers. The senior has started all eight games this season for the Spartans (2-6, 0-5 Big Ten).

Carr is out for the second straight week with an undisclosed injury. Also ruled out for the second straight game is junior quarterback Noah Kim, who has not played since MSU’s Sept. 30 loss at Iowa.

Others who remain out include running back Davion Primm; linebacker Darius Snow; defensive end Bai Jobe; defensive tackles Jarrett Jackson and Dre Butler; and defensive backs Charles Brantley, Semar Melvin and Marqui Lowery.

One player who is eligible to return is junior defensive back Khary Crump, whose eight-game suspension for the tunnel fight last year at Michigan has been served.
