Pontiac basketball star Henry Brummel won the Pontiac Daily Leader's Athlete of the Week honor for the week of Dec. 22-30, comfortably topping the rest of the field in our weekly poll.

Brummel helped Pontiac go 1-2 at the Pontiac Holiday Tournament. He scored 40 points and grabbed 25 rebounds in the three games, including hitting double-double status in an 80-50 win over Bloomington. He was also voted to the all-tournament honorable mention team.

Brummel garnered 284 votes, which was 47.02 percent of the vote on the Athlete of the Week poll, and Prairie Central's Tyler Curl hauled in 156 votes (25.83 percent).

The rest of the nominees were: Connor Telford of Dwight; Pontiac's Riley Weber, Jonah Funk, Myli Ehrhardt and Micah Meiss of El Paso-Gridley.

Each week we nominate a group of stars and you get to go and vote in our poll. The voting at pontiacdailyleader.com ends at noon each Friday. You can email Erich Murphy at emurphy@gannett.com by 9 a.m. each Monday to submit a potential nominee who may be placed on the ballot.
