WNC spring sports Week 10 top performers, led by Sadie Jo Hunter's 13 strikeouts, two home runs

Here are the Western North Carolina athletes who had top performances this week in spring sports.

This list is compiled from information provided to the Citizen Times (sports@citizentimes.com) or posted on MaxPreps or social media. It will be updated throughout the week.

Baseball

Alex Perry, Polk County: Perry drove in three runs, two of which came in an eight-run third inning, in Polk County's 10-6 win over Madison.

Cale Ball, Madison: Ball had a big day at the plate with a home run, a double and five RBIs in a 10-6 loss to Polk County.

Friday

Softball

Carolina Hollifield, Avery County: Hollifield drove in three runs and homered for the Vikings in a 10-7 loss to Mitchell.

Mary Shelton, Hendersonville: Shelton drove in three runs and went 3-for-4 in a 16-0 win over East Henderson.

Averie Russell, Hendersonville: The sophomore went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs scored and a double.

Kayla Clancy, Hendersonville: Clancy added three RBIs and was 2-for-3 at the plate.

Rylee Parris, Hendersonville: Parris was the fourth Bearcat to drive in three runs in the three-inning victory.

Grace Willis, Mitchell: Willis drove in four runs, including a three-run home in the second inning, as Mitchell beat Avery County 10-7.

Sarah Forbes, Mountain Heritage: Forbes hit an inside-the-park home run in the third inning to drive in three and help the Cougars take down Draughn, 6-3.

Neveah Buchanon, Mountain Heritage: Buchanon earned the win for the Cougars, allowing only five hits and no earned runs in seven innings. She struck out four.

Addie Mull, Smoky Mountain: Mull homered twice in a 9-6 loss to Tuscola, driving in three runs and going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Alyson Burns, Smoky Mountain: Burns drove home three runs and doubled in the loss to the Mountaineers.

Alexis Markos, Tuscola: The freshman drove in two runs on a double in Tuscola's eight-run sixth inning. The Mountaineers beat Smoky Mountain 9-6.

Addi Sampson, Tuscola: Sampson drove in two runs at the plate and struck out three batters in 4.1 innings pitched, allowing only two hits.

Baseball

Silas Dearmin, Avery County: Dearmin went 3-for-5 with four RBIs to help lift Avery County to a 13-11 win over Mitchell.

Cole Singleton, Avery County: Singleton drove in three runs, doubling and going 3-for-4 for the Vikings.

Jordyn Brown, Brevard: Brown hit a grand slam in the fifth inning and drove in five total runs on the day, lifting Brevard over Hayesville, 14-8.

Riley Anderson, Brevard: Anderson hit a home run and totaled two RBIs in the win.

Peyton McGaha, Hayesville: The center fielder homered, doubled and drove in three RBIs, but Hayesville fell 14-8 to Brevard to snap a 15-game winning streak.

Tuscola pitching staff: Five Mountaineers combined to throw a one-hitter against North Buncombe. Brayden Cockrell pitched three innings, then Noah Stepp, Kolt Nelson, Amos Rich and Mason Harrell each threw an inning.

Girls soccer

Lily Foo, Asheville High: Foo scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over West Henderson.

Thursday

Softball

Amila Lossie, Cherokee: Lossie homered and drove in three runs in a 3-for-3 day at the plate. Cherokee beat Andrews 20-1 in the first game of the doubleheader. She also drove in two runs in the second game.

Jenna Cruz, Cherokee: Cruz hit two home runs in the doubleheader, one in each game. She went 3-for-3 in the second game, a 12-2 win, and was 5-for-8 on the day.

Emma Payne, Enka: Payne doubled twice and drove in five RBIs while going 3-for-4 at the plate. She also scored four runs in the 15-1 win over Asheville.

Kendall Rumans, Franklin: Rumans went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in Franklin's 17-7 defeat of Roberson.

Ashlyn McConnell, Franklin: McConnell went 5-for-6 at the dish for the Panthers, doubling twice, scoring four runs and driving in one run.

Kylie Henson, Pisgah: Henson drove home two runs, including the walk off winner in a 7-6 victory over North Henderson.

Alexis Byrd, Mitchell: Byrd brought home three runs in a 2-for-3 day at the plate, lifting Mitchell to a 15-4 win over Avery County.

Grace Willis, Mitchell: Willis went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Aiden Smith, Murphy: Smith drove in two runs and homered for the Bulldogs in a 12-6 loss to Robbinsville.

Sadie Jo Hunter, North Buncombe: Hunter hit a grand slam in the third inning to pad the Black Hawks' lead over Erwin, then finished the 5-0 win in the circle. She struck out 12 and gave up two hits in a complete game win, helping North Buncombe win a share of the Mountain Athletic Conference title.

Mia Roland, Owen: Roland homered and drove in five runs to lift the Warhorses to a 14-3 win over Madison.

Payton Brockman, Owen: Brockman also homered for the Warhorses, driving in four runs.

Aubrey Treadway, Reynolds: Treadway doubled, tripled and drove home three runs as Reynolds knocked off McDowell, 5-4.

Anna Williams, Robbinsville: Williams homered in the 12-6 win over Murphy, driving home three runs while batting 2-for-3.

Sophie Roberts, Robbinsville: Roberts drove in three more runs in the Black Knights' win.

Jordyn Summey, Roberson: Summey doubled twice and drove home three runs, but Roberson lost 17-7 to Franklin.

Rebecca Tuttle, Rosman: Tuttle went 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs in Rosman's 12-0 victory over East Henderson.

Maddie Bird, Swain County: Bird tallied three RBIs in Swain County's 5-0 win over Hiwassee Dam.

Rylee Rawls, Swain County: Rawls struck out 14 batters and allowed only one hit in the victory.

Makena Henderson, West Henderson: The catcher drove in three runs on a home run and a triple to lead the Falcons past Tuscola, 5-3.

Lashea Morlu, West Henderson: Morlu went 3-for-3 in the win, driving home two runs.

Baseball

Ethan Sutton, Andrews: The freshman threw a five-inning no-hitter in a 4-2 win over Cherokee. He struck out six and walked two in the first game of the doubleheader.

Nelson Kittrell, Brevard: Kittrell went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs for the Blue Devils in a 9-2 win over Patton.

Garen Hardin, Carolina Day: Hardin went 2-for-4, tripled, drove in five runs and scored three more in the Wildcats' 17-3 win over Spartanburg Day.

Ty Aycock, Enka: The catcher drove in five RBIs in a 3-for-5 day at the plate. Enka beat North Buncombe 9-1.

Rex Miller, Erwin: Miller hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to drive home the walk off run, leading Erwin to a 5-4 win over Reynolds.

Jayden Rogers, Franklin: Rogers homered for the Panthers, helping deliver a 5-4 victory over East Henderson.

Max Shelton, Madison: Shelton went 4-for-5 in Madison's 15-8 win over Owen. He had four RBIs, three runs scored, two doubles and a triple.

Zackary Wester, Pisgah: Wester struck out 10 batters in five innings and allowed three hits in the Bears' 10-0 win over Smoky Mountain.

Maddox Wright, Pisgah: Wright drove in four runs in the six-inning victory.

Lawson Carter, Polk County: Carter went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs in Polk County's 11-2 eight-inning win over Chase.

Karson Scruggs, Polk County: Scruggs earned a complete-game win in the eight-inning victory, striking out six and giving up no earned runs while allowing seven hits.

Zeb Swangim, Roberson: Swangim drove in two runs in the Rams' 4-1 win over Asheville High.

Truitt Manuel, West Henderson: Manuel struck out 12 batters in five innings while only walking one batter and giving up one hit. The Falcons beat North Henderson 10-0 in six innings.

Girls soccer

Holly Lanter, Asheville Christian Academy: Lanter scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Reynolds.

Track and field

Michael Haskin, Asheville High: The junior won both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races by 10 seconds in the Mountain Athletic Conference championships.

Sofi Alexander, Asheville High: Alexander swept the 800-meter, 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races at the Mountain Athletic Conference championships, including taking the two-mile by nearly a minute.

Sebla Miracle, Asheville High: Miracle won the long jump and triple jump for the Cougars.

Andrew Ramsey, East Henderson: Ramsey's first place finishes in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes picked up 20 points for the Eagles in the Mountain 7 Conference championships.

Josh Flack, Enka: Flack won the high jump and the long jump at the Mountain Athletic Conference championships.

Graham Cannon, Enka: Cannon won the discus with a mark of 161 feet, over 20 feet more than his competitors. He also took first in shot put.

Morgan Cress, Franklin: Cress took first place in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races at the Mountain 7 Conference championships, leading the Panthers to the conference title.

Audrey Pressley, Franklin: Pressley took first in the long jump and the triple jump by nearly 1.5 feet in each.

Daniel Coronell, North Henderson: Coronell took the title in the high jump and the long jump at the Mountain 7 Conference championships.

Jake Ramage, Reynolds: Ramage finished in first in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles at the boys Mountain Athletic Conference championships.

Jaylee Monteith, Reynolds: The freshman took first place in both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash at the girls Mountain Athletic Conference championships. She also won the high jump.

Emma Hall, West Henderson: Hall won the 100-meter dash, the 100-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and was the last leg in the Falcons' first-place 1,600-meter relay team at the Mountain 7 Conference championships. She helped West Henderson finish in second.

Jasmine Banks, West Henderson: Banks won the 200-meter dash and was on West Henderson's 1,600-meter relay team. She also finished second in the 100-meter dash and the 400-meter dash.

Hudson Rice, West Henderson: Rice finished in first in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs to help West Henderson win the Mountain 7 Conference championships. He also won the 3,200-meter relay.

Taymen Howell, West Henderson: Howell won the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meters hurdles for the Falcons. He also finished in first on the 800-meter relay team.

Wednesday

Softball

Claire Wilson, Brevard: The shortstop hit a home run in the sixth inning, which proved to be the winning run in a 2-1 victory over Patton.

Emma Bailey, Brevard: Bailey threw a complete game, striking out seven, giving up seven hits and one run.

Haley Fish, Enka: Fish struck out 12 batters over seven innings in a complete game win over Smoky Mountain, 6-2. She gave up two hits and no earned runs.

Kennedy Drake, Hendersonville: Drake homered and drove home three runs, going 2-for-3 on the day in Hendersonville's 14-7 win.

Sage Young, McDowell: Young tallied three hits and two RBIs, helping McDowell take down Draughn 9-5.

Addie Staton, McDowell: Staton homered and drove two runs home in the victory.

Paisley Johnson, Murphy: Johnson struck out 17 batters in a complete game, 11-2 loss to Robbinsville.

Rylee Campbell, Pisgah: Campbell went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, helping Pisgah beat East Henderson 11-1 in six innings.

Jaiden Smith, Pisgah: Smith drove in two runs and went 2-for-3 in the Bears' win.

Mia Roland, Owen: Roland powered the Warhorses to an 11-0 win over Madison with a home run, three RBIs and a 3-for-4 day at the plate.

Payton Brockman, Owen: Brockman went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in Owen's win.

Sophie Neal, Owen: Neal struck out nine batters and gave up only two hits in a five-inning complete game.

Zoie Shuler, Robbinsville: Shuler homered and drove in three runs for the Black Knights. She went 3-for-4 with four runs scored in an 11-2 win over Murphy.

Memory Frapp, Robbinsville: Frapp struck out 10 batters and allowed only one hit, giving up no earned runs. She also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Callie Garren, Rosman: Garren went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs in Rosman's 6-4 win over Cherokee.

Rylee Rawls, Swain County: Rawls struck out 10 and gave up only two hits in a five-inning win over Hiwassee Dam, 11-0.

Baseball

Chip Hoornstra, Asheville Christian Academy: Hoornstra went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs in ACA's 11-0 win over Hickory Christian Academy.

Garrett Case, Enka: Case drove in three runs at the plate and struck out six batters while giving up one hit in five innings on the mound. Enka beat North Buncombe, 8-2.

Troy Tipton, Madison: Tipton hit a grand slam to help lift Madison to a 14-4 win over Owen.

Caden Lounsbury, Madison: Lounsbury homered and drove in two runs, finishing the day 2-for-3 at the plate.

Isaac Gilliland, McDowell: Gilliland went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in McDowell's 7-5 win over Patton.

AJ Mackey, Mitchell: Mackey went 2-for-4, including a home run, driving in two runs in a 12-1 win over Avery County.

Adam Cook, Murphy: Cook went 2-for-5 with three RBIs to help lift the Bulldogs to a 16-7 victory over Robbinsville.

Cade Gardner, Reynolds: Gardner hit a home run and drove in three RBIs in a 7-6 defeat of Erwin.

Quinn Jumper, Robbinsville: Jumper homered and drove home three runs, but Robbinsville fell 16-7 to Murphy.

Micah Simpson, Roberson: Simpson threw a complete game two-hitter, striking out eight in a 5-0 win over Asheville High. He also homered, lifting the Rams to the Mountain Athletic Conference championship.

Caden Davidson, Roberson: Davidson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the victory.

Carter Hayes, Swain County: Hayes tallied four RBIs, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple. Swain County beat Hiwassee Dam 13-7.

Truitt Manuel, West Henderson: Manuel homered and earned the save, striking out two batters, to help West Henderson beat North Henderson, 4-2, and clinch the Mountain 7 Conference.

Girls soccer

Peyton Case, Asheville High: Case's two goals were part of an offensive onslaught in the Cougars' 9-0 win over McDowell.

Charlotte Berry, Asheville High: Berry's brace added onto Case's in the mercy rule win.

Abby Huter, Brevard: Huter made 14 saves and only allowed two goals, helping Brevard earn a draw against Hendersonville, 2-2.

Jazmin Settles, East Henderson: Settles made nine saves in regulation and overtime, only giving up one goal and helping the Eagles to a 1-1 draw against North Henderson.

Amber Hernandez, Madison: Hernandez scored a hat trick and assisted another goal in Madison's 6-1 victory over Mountain Heritage.

Addy Sutherland, Madison: Sutherland also scored three goals and assisted another in the Patriots' win.

Kate Pratt, Roberson: Pratt scored a brace in Roberson's 9-0 win over Erwin.

Grace Dzialo, Roberson: Dzialo also scored two goals in the mercy-rule victory over the Warriors.

Cara Bailey, Smoky Mountain: Bailey scored two goals to lift the Mustangs to a 2-1 win over Franklin.

Track and field

Samuel Preston, Andrews: Preston took first place in the long jump and triple jump at the Smoky Mountain Conference championships.

Dvdaya Swimmer, Cherokee: Swimmer took first place in the 800-meter race and finished in second in the 1,600-meter race at the Smoky Mountain Conference championships.

Zoie Shuler, Robbinsville: In field events, Shuler took the title in long jump and triple jump while finishing in second in high jump. On the track, she won the 100-meter dash.

Zeke Glaspie, Swain County: Glaspie's times in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes earned him two first place finishes. He helped lead the Maroon Devils to the Smoky Mountain Conference championship.

Carl Baird, Swain County: Baird finished in first in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races.

Nse Uffort, Swain County: Uffort's mark in discus was over 165 feet, 25 feet further than his competition. He also took first in shotput by nearly 10 feet.

Arizona Blankenship, Swain County: Blankenship worked her way to a first-place finish in both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races in the girls Smoky Mountain Conference championships, helping the Maroon Devils to the title.

Melani Linton, Swain County: Linton won the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles races.

Boys tennis

Isaac Lewis, Roberson: Lewis won his No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-1, and his No. 1 doubles match 8-0, to help lead Roberson to a 9-0 win over Mooresville in the first round of the playoffs.

James O'Brien, Roberson: O'Brien didn't allow his opponents to win a set. He won his No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-0, and teamed up with Lewis to win the No. 1 doubles match 8-0.

Tuesday

Softball

Ashlyn McConnell, Franklin: McConnell hit one of Franklin's three solo home runs and went 2-for-2 at the plate, but the Panthers fell 4-3 to West Henderson.

Sadie Jo Hunter, North Buncombe: Hunter had a monster day at the plate with two home runs and four RBIs in North Buncombe's 22-0 three-inning drubbing of Asheville High.

Molly Clark, North Buncombe: The junior homered and drove in two runs.

Karsen Cherry, Tuscola: Cherry went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, two walks and two runs scored. She led the way for the Mountaineers in a 16-3 win over Smoky Mountain.

Madisyn Brooks, Tuscola: Brooks went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, three doubles and four runs scored in the win.

Makena Henderson, West Henderson: The catcher drove in two runs, including taking a hit by pitch to bring home the winning run in the seventh inning. The Falcons beat Franklin, 4-3.

Haley Littrell, West Henderson: Littrell drove in two runs on a home run in the sixth inning in the victory.

Baseball

Chip Hoornstra, Asheville Christian Academy: Hoornstra went 4-for-4 at the plate, driving home four runs and scoring two more. He tripled twice and struck out three batters in two innings on the mound in an 11-6 win over Greenville Hurricanes.

Manning Stewart, Carolina Day: Stewart went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in an 11-8 win over Spartanburg Day.

Martiste Mills, Carolina Day: Mills went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple and scored four runs for the Wildcats.

Walker Fox, Pisgah: Fox drove in two runs to guide the Bears to a 4-3 win over Smoky Mountain.

Josh Mitchell, Smoky Mountain: Mitchell went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double in Smoky Mountain's narrow 4-3 loss to Pisgah.

Girls soccer

Nora Felty, Brevard: Felty recorded two goals and added two more assists in Brevard's 6-2 win over Patton.

Lily Rogers, Brevard: Rogers joined her teammate by scoring a brace of her own.

Monday

Softball

Carrie Gunter, Madison: Gunter doubled twice and drove in three runs to lead the Patriots to a 10-0 victory against Rosman. She also struck out four and gave up two hits in five innings pitched.

Sage Young, McDowell: Young went 3-for-4, driving home two runs as McDowell defeated Erwin, 10-0.

Layla Presnell, McDowell: Presnell struck out six in three innings in the circle, allowing only one hit in the five-inning win.

Sadie Jo Hunter, North Buncombe: Hunter struck out 13 batters, allowed three hits and gave up one run in a 2-1 victory over Enka. She also homered in the victory.

MacKenzi Jones, Pisgah: Jones powered Pisgah to a 6-2 win over Tuscola behind a home run and two RBIs. She went 3-for-4 with three runs scored.

Zoie Shuler, Robbinsville: The Tennessee commit went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run in a 14-4 win over Hiwassee Dam.

Sophie Roberts, Robbinsville: Roberts homered and drove in two runs for the Black Knights.

Carley Teesateskie, Swain County: Teesateskie went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two doubles in a 12-0 win over Andrews.

Rylee Rawls, Swain County: Rawls struck out 11 while giving up two hits in a five-inning complete game win.

Sarah Walker, West Henderson: Walker went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to help lead the Falcons to a 7-1 win against Reynolds. She also struck out seven batters without allowing a hit in four innings of relief in the circle.

Baseball

Caden Ingle, Erwin: Ingle's three RBIs were the most for the Warriors in a 10-4 win over Smoky Mountain.

Patrick Metcalf, Madison: Metcalf tallied three RBIs and went 2-for-2 at the plate in a 12-1 win over Rosman.

Max Shelton, Madison: Shelton homered and drove in two runs. He also struck out two batters over 2.2 hitless innings on the mound.

Marshall Lamb, McDowell: Lamb went 2-for-4, driving home three runs to help guide the Titans to a 12-9 win over Mountain Heritage.

Christian Elliott, McDowell: The catcher drove in two runs while going 3-for-5 at the plate.

Ayden Smiley, Swain County: Smiley homered and went 3-for-4 while driving in three runs in the Maroon Devils' 10-0 win against Andrews.

Will Holden, Swain County: The freshman pitcher struck out six batters and allowed only one hit over six innings in the win.

Girls Soccer

Eily Rule, Mountain Heritage: The junior's hat trick helped lift the Cougars to a 5-1 victory over Mitchell.

Kai'ana Stella, Mountain Heritage: Stella added two goals in Mountain Heritage's victory.

Gracie Rinker, Tuscola: Rinker recorded a hat trick to help lift the Mountaineers to a 6-0 win against East Henderson.

Christina Diavatis, Reynolds: Diavatis scored a brace in Reynolds' 3-0 win over Erwin.

Emma Clancy, Tuscola: The freshman tallied five assists in Tuscola's win and scored a goal, recording a point on every Mountaineers score.

Marianne Maxon, West Henderson: Maxon's three goals and three assists led the Falcons to a 9-0 win over Pisgah.

Rhylie Druskis, West Henderson: Alongside Maxon's performance, Druskis's two goals and two assists helped West Henderson to the mercy-rule win.
