Player of the Year Nominees − First Team
E'Zaria Adams, Sr., Palm Beach Central
Touting Division I offers from Eastern Florida State and Long Island University, Adams finished her high school career as the top scorer in Palm Beach County — No. 23 in the state — with an average of 22.2 points per game. Central's region quarterfinal berth marked the first time the Broncos made state playoffs since 2015, Adams' averages of 3.8 assists, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.8 steals forging the way.
In four years on varsity, she totaled 1,064 points.
Kendra Bentley, Sr., Santaluces
The combo guard proved why she was the Palm Beach Post's 2022 Player of the Year with one last stellar season on the hardwood. Albeit a lackluster year for Santaluces, finishing 10-12, Bentley still put it all on the line in hopes of returning the Chiefs to region semifinals.
She averaged 20.2 points, 3.3 assists, 7.9 rebounds and 4.9 steals per game.
Taylor Blackshear, Sr., Benjamin
Blackshear's name won't echo throughout Benjamin's gym next winter, but it certainly won't be forgotten.
Leading the 14-9 Bucs to their fourth consecutive state playoff appearance, the combo guard ended the season ranked in the top 25 in the nation for steals, averaging 7.4 per game. Blackshear put up averages of 19.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game, putting in 1,174 points total since her first start as a freshman.
Jade Jones, So., King's
The small forward and shot guard forged King's Academy's first trip to the final four in 2022 and helped the Lions return to Lakeland in February, leading the defense with an average of 2.7 steals and 0.7 blocks per game. Jones was also second on the team in scoring and rebounds, averaging 12.5 and 8.7, respectively.
Madison Mingo, Sr., Cardinal Newman
Even with a mid-season coaching change, the Crusaders found their way back to region semifinals. Leading Newman to a 17-11 finish, Mingo averaged 12.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and one block per game.
Kyana Poitier, Jr., Palm Beach Gardens
In the same region stacked with competition like Class 7A state champion Dr. Phillips, the Gators fell just three points shy of making region finals. Fortunately for Gardens, Poitier — the state's No. 3 rebounder across all classes — will be back to forge a deeper run in 2024. This winter, she averaged 11.8 points, two assists, 15.9 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game to record 19 double-doubles, helping Gardens finish 16-9.
Jordan Race, Sr., King's
When the game was on the line, Race could always be counted on to make clutch plays to put King's back in control. Especially from 3-point range, sinking a team-leading 28 as the Lions went 23-5. She averaged 9.8 points per game and contributed another team-high average of 3.2 assists per game. A shot guard and small forward, Race has been offered by 10-time River States Conference champion Brescia University.
Janessa Williams, Sr., King's
Now committed to play Division I basketball at Long Island University, Williams completed a senior campaign many dream of but few see become reality. In 26 games, she topped the roster with averages of 16 points and 11.8 rebounds — seven defensively — per game to rank No. 6 for the stat category in Class 3A. The shot guard and small forward also averaged 2.2 assists per game. Her 18 double-doubles rank eighth in Florida.
Iasiah Suprius, Sr., Seminole Ridge
Although the Hawks missed making it back to Class 6A region finals to Blanche Ely, another deep run in playoffs without college-caliber pieces like Aspen Johnson and Ashley Thornton was quite the feat. The McDonald's All-American Game nominee was one of four seniors on the roster, stuffing the stat sheet with averages of 12 points, 2.4 assists, a team-high eight rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game.
Janiah Suprius, So., Seminole Ridge
Another winning season, finishing 15-7, was charged by the younger Suprius, who clearly benefited from having to step up as a starter for an injury-riddled roster as a freshman. The left-handed point guard led the Hawks with 14.1 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.9 steals per game, recording an average of 6.9 rebounds along the way. She holds an offer from Florida Atlantic University.
Cienna Thigpen, Sr., Palm Beach Gardens
Thigpen transferred from Palm Beach Lakes ahead of her senior year and spun a new narrative on the Gardens team that went 7-11 in 2022. In 25 games, the St. Pete College commit led the roster averaging 19.3 points per game, 2.1 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals.
Gaby Toledo, Sr., Wellington
Wellington didn't see the same success it did finishing 16-9 in region quarterfinals last year, but it was still an impressive year for 1,000-point club member Toledo. The point guard led the Wolverines with 14.2 points and 2.7 assists per game and was a force on defense averaging 3.8 rebounds and 3.1 steals in 25 games. She has offers from Keystone College, Penn State-Hazleton and Palm Beach State College.
Coach of the year
Chris Race, King's Academy
King's was the county's last girls basketball program standing once again as Race led the Lions to a back-to-back Final Four appearance in the Class 3A state championship. He coached seven underclassmen to come together and repave the way to Lakeland, finishing 23-5 as district and region champs.
