Winter all-area series: Top Augusta-area high school wrestlers for the 2023-24 season

Another high school wrestling season is in the books.

More Augusta-area wrestlers continued to perform well at the Georgia High School Association state meets, with plenty of local competitors bringing back hardware. What stood out this time around is the continued growth of the sport on the girls' side. We saw three female wrestlers finish in the top 3 in their respective weight classes, including our area's lone state champion.

With a handful of Augusta-area programs sending wrestlers to college, the sport's footprint is buried deep here. It doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon and, if anything, more girls will continue to come out and compete (and likely at an earlier age). Greenbrier has built a blueprint for serious wrestling programs and it won't be long before other schools begin to replicate it.

Here are the Augusta-area high school wrestlers of the year for the 2023-24 season

Wrestler of the year

Arieana Bacon, Greenbrier

Bacon took the state championship in the 155-pound class at the state traditional meet and became. The senior also became first-ever Greenbrier wrestler to place four times at state in her high school career, capping off the first chapter of an impressive run from the Wolfpack program.
