Wimberley senior Jaxon Donaldson warmed up for the upcoming UIL state golf tournament with a sensational showing at the Region IV finals this week.

The two-time Class 4A state champion carded a 65 and a 63 on successive days to finish 14-under par, 10 strokes ahead of runner-up golfers Shepherd Findley of Fredericksburg and Jackson Sledzik of Needville.

On Tuesday, the Texas State-bound golfer made eight birdies, 10 pars and no bogeys to finish with his 63 at Colony Creek Golf Course in Victoria. This marks the second straight year that Wimberley's team has qualified for state.

Donaldson burst onto the high school golf scene by winning his first state championship as a freshman. He followed that with a second-place finish as a sophomore before winning state again as a junior.

Coached by Dane Saucier, the Texans will also be represented at state by senior Kellar Cudney (74-78), sophomore Hollis Eckols (85-78), junior Cody Stoever (89-82) and junior Nolan Waida (87-93). The Class 4A state tournament will be April 29-30 at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland. It's the same course Donaldson earned his gold medal last year.
