Wilmington-area high school sports top performers for May 6-11

The spring high school sports postseason is intensifying, leaving us with only a handful of area teams remaining.

Most Wilmington-area playoff games were postponed Friday due to weather. Some are resumed Saturday, while others are waiting until Monday. See an updated schedule of every playoff matchup here.

Here are the best performances from around the Wilmington area for the week of May 6-11.

Saturday

Baseball

Dylan Welch, Sr., Ashley: Welch went 1-for-3 with two RBIs as the Screaming Eagles defeated Millbrook 7-5 to advance to the third round of the NCSHAA playoffs.

Softball

Kina Davis, Jr., South Brunswick: Davis threw 13 strikeouts in 10 innings as the Cougars held on to defeat Richland 2-1 in extra innings to advance to the third round of the NCHSAA 3A state playoffs.

Track and field

4A East Regional

Cashmere James, Sr., New Hanover: James completed the trifecta this weekend, claiming the 100, 200 and 400 meter dash regional titles in the NCHSAA 4A East track and field regionals.

Bailey Willard, Sr., Laney: Willard earned regional titles in discus and shot put at the event.

Ashlei Summers, Sr., Hoggard: Summers placed third in the girls 3,200 meters at the event.

3A East Regional

Bryson Hollis, Jr., West Brunswick: Hollis placed third in the boys 1,600 meters and fifth in the 800 meters.

Jabril Dashiell, Sr., North Brunswick: Jabril placed third in discus at the event.

2A Mideast Regional

Sawyer Davis, Eighth grade, Trask: Davis placed third in the boys high jump in the NCHSAA 2A Mideast Regional.

1A Mideast Regional

Carter Brown, Jr., Pender: Brown placed third in the boys 3,200 meters in the NCHSAA 2A Mideast Regional over the weekend.

Jordan Hansley, Soph., Pender: Hansley placed second in the boys high jump at the event.

Desmon Thomas, Jr., Pender: Thomas claimed the regional title in the boys triple jump at the event.

Da'Nya Respus-Hand, Fr., Pender: The freshman placed second in the girls 200 meters at the event.

Grace Bordeaux, Jr., Pender: The junior placed second in the girls 400 meters.

Olivia Gurganus, Sr., Pender: Gurganus earned a regional title in the girls long jump and placed second in the triple jump at the event.

Wednesday

Boys tennis

Logan Tamadon, Jr., Hoggard: Tamadon battled to defeat Enloe's Michael Boykin in three sets at No. 4 singles, tying the match up 2-2. Hoggard went on to win 5-2.

Tuesday

Baseball

Quinn Bentley, Jr., Ashley: Bentley went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a pair of doubles as the Screaming Eagles defeated Pine Forest 10-0.

Softball

Macey Ciamillo, Jr., Hoggard: Ciamillo went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two doubles while throwing seven strikeouts in the Vikings 5-2 win over Holly Springs.

Kina Davis, Jr., South Brunswick: Davis threw 17 strikeouts in seven innings as the Cougars defeated Lee County 9-0.

Lauren Hall, Soph., Trask: Hall went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored as the Titans defeated St. Pauls 13-7.

Girls lacrosse

Lillian Austin, Sr., Topsail: Austin scored five goals as the Pirates defeated Green Hope in the third round of the NCHSAA 4A East state playoffs.

Melina Toronto, Sr., Topsail: Toronto found the back of the net five times as she scored her 100th career goal in the win.

Boys lacrosse

Anthony Blackburn, Jr., Ashley: Blackburn scored three goals and delivered one assist as Ashley defeated Broughton 9-5 to advance to the fourth round of the state playoffs for the first time in school history.

Monday

Girls soccer

Ellis Kelly, Jr., Hoggard: Kelly scored four goals as the Vikings defeated South Brunswick 7-0.

Avery Barr, Sr., Hoggard: Barr scored twice in the win.

Olivia Duleba, Jr., Laney: Duleba scored twice and assisted one goal as Laney defeated New Hanover 6-0.

Boys golf

Dylan Lewis, Jr., Hoggard: Lewis shot 68 in Monday's 4A East Regional in Durham, advancing to next week's state championship.

Maddux Cook, Jr., Hoggard: Cook also shot 68 at the event.
