Which Wilmington-area high school football games will be affected by Hurricane Idalia?

It's hurricane season in the Wilmington area, and as you prepare for the unexpected, high school football teams are also adapting.

While several high school athletics events scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday have already been postponed, some football games initially scheduled for Friday are also starting to get pushed back.

With eight area teams set to take the field Friday, at least one has moved its field time to Saturday, while another has created a TBA status.

As we learned last year, a lot can change in a few days, so we'll update this page as soon as more information is available.

Will football be played Friday?

With increasing concerns over inclement weather caused by Hurricanes Idalia and Franklin in the Wilmington area, some games have already been moved to Saturday or given a 'To be Announced' status. Here's what we know so far. Note: This schedule is highly subject to change and will be updated regularly.

  • East Bladen at Ashley, 6 p.m., Saturday (Legion Stadium)

  • Hoggard at Wallace-Rose Hill, 7 p.m. Friday

  • Northside at New Hanover, 6:30 p.m., Friday

  • North Brunswick at Swansboro, Friday, 7 p.m.

  • West Brunswick at North Myrtle Beach, TBA

  • St. Pauls at South Brunswick, 7 p.m., Friday

  • Pender at Union, 7 p.m., Friday

  • Trask at Sandhills, 7 p.m., Friday

Other sports

New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender Counties have announced all after school activities on Wednesday and Thursday have been canceled.

Here is a list of high school athletic events that were postponed to another date.

  • New Hanover boys and girls cross country: Moved from Thursday to Saturday, Sept. 2 at 8 a.m.
