Williams: ‘We are about to fight and compete’

The time has come, it is time for interim head coach Carnell Williams to lead the Auburn Tigers for the first time.

It has been an emotional week for Williams, as he becomes the first African American to become head coach at Auburn University. His roles and duties have also changed this week, as he has worked extra hours to prepare the perfect game plan to battle Mississippi State.

Now that game day is finally here, Williams is ready to compete.

In a recent interview with the voice of the Tigers, Andy Burcham, Williams says that his team is will give it their all on Saturday night in Starkville.

“Wow. I’m super excited to get this opportunity to play Mississippi State, which (will be) a really good football game,” Williams said. “The Auburn Tigers, we are rolling in here, and we are going to roll up our sleeves. We are about to fight and compete, and I am looking forward to seeing our team respond after everything that happened this week.”

Williams mentioned earlier this week that he is taking a “week-by-week” approach to the season, and wants his players to just live in the moment. He reiterated that on Saturday.

“That is the main focus. I want these guys to go out and have fun. Play loose, play for each other. Let’s do it for each other and do it for the Auburn nation, the Auburn family.”

Auburn faces Mississippi State at 6:30 p.m. CT in Starkville.
