Why were Nashville Predators trying to get Cody Glass a hat trick in win vs Avalanche?

In the middle of a frustrating, injury-riddled season, Cody Glass put up a career performance for the Nashville Predators on Saturday.

Glass scored his first career hat trick to guide the Predators to a 5-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche. Glass had never scored more than one goal in a game in his career.

His effort led to Nashville's eighth straight win, currently the longest streak in the NHL.

After the game, Glass said his teammates were the biggest reason he was able to cap off the performance with a hat trick.

"It was unbelievable," Glass said. "I think they wanted it more than I did. I didn't want to put any pressure on myself, I was just trying to do what I did the whole game. They were trying to find me the whole third period."

Why were his teammates trying to get him the hat trick? Because they know what kind of season he's had.

Cody Glass with a career moment

After a career best 35 points last season, Glass signed a two-year, $5 million deal with the Predators last summer. He's struggled to match his scoring pace from last year, putting up only seven points in 33 games before Saturday.

Then in one game, he more than double his goal output for the season − from two to five.

Glass's teammates were expectedly thrilled for him, knowing the kind of season he's had. The whole team celebrated on the bench, knowing what kind of moment this was for him.

"We erupted pretty good for him when he got it," Ryan O'Reilly said. "The unfortunate bounces he's gotten this season and being hurt, to see how hard he's worked to get back after the game."

Coach Andrew Brunette noticed it too.

"It's almost like they were more excited than he was," Brunette said.
