Here’s why Ruston’s Ahmad Breaux opted to commit to LSU football

Ruston High has sent its share of quality athletes to LSU. Guys like Bert Jones, Michael Brooks, Kyle Williams, John David Moore and Jack Hunt have done more than just compete for the Tigers, they’ve been major contributors.

It appears Ruston defensive lineman Ahmad Breaux could soon be added to the list. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound edge rusher is listed as a three-star recruit, the No. 26 player in Louisiana, by 247sports and he recently committed to the Tigers.

“Playing for LSU has been a lifelong dream of mine — being a kid who grew up in South Louisiana,” Breaux said. “I have had cousins and other idols from my hometown who made it there and shined. When I finally got to see the beauty of LSU first-hand, after years of working to get to that point, it was a no-brainer that it was the place I wanted to be.”

Breaux was a catalyst in Ruston’s run to the LHSAA Non-Select Division I championship game last season in the Louisiana Superdome. The Bearcats rattled off a 12-2 season and won District 2-5A with an unblemished record after defeating West Monroe, 35-17, for the first time since 1990.

Breaux has been to camp at LSU every year as a Bearcat and returned from Baton Rouge on June 10. He was initially committed to Duke.

“In the midst of them offering me, I was considering other schools such as Purdue, Missouri, Ole Miss and Tulane,” Breaux said. “I have shut down my recruitment since the day I committed to LSU, and I’m not taking any more visits.”

He said LSU plans to use him as a true defensive end mixed with a little bit of stand-up edge rusher.

“But I will mostly have my hand in the dirt,” he said.
