Where will Jayden Daniels be drafted? Commanders lead list of 2024 NFL Draft landing spots

The 2024 NFL Draft is three days away from kicking off in Detroit, and this year's draft class is once again stacked with quarterback talent.

LSU Tigers football quarterback Jayden Daniels is widely considered to be near the top of the list. In fact, he's a near-unanimous pick to go No. 2 overall, including by USA TODAY's own mock draft.

The 6-foot-4 Daniels is coming off a season in which he won the 2023 Heisman Trophy Award, as he finished with 236 pass completions for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns and 1,134 rushing yards with 10 rushing scores. He also led the nation in total offense (4,946) in the regular season, as well as in touchdowns responsible for (50); and rushing yards by a quarterback (1,134).

Daniels went 20-7 in two seasons in Baton Rouge after playing the first three years of his career at Arizona State. Here's what you need to know about where Daniels is projected to go in the 2024 NFL Draft, along with which NFL team he best fits with along with a scouting report:

Where will LSU's Jayden Daniels go in the 2024 NFL Draft?

Here's where NFL draft analysts have Daniels going in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft:

USA TODAY: Round 1, No. 2 overall to Washington Commanders

"It's a long way away from a consensus, but Daniels is hard to shake as the Commanders' potential target at No. 2. The Heisman Trophy winner's command from the pocket and ability to rip off big gains as a runner will be attractive features to whichever team drafts him. And while it would be a misnomer to call any quarterbacks 'safe' picks, Daniels stands above the competition for this slot in his readiness to serve as an offensive engine from Day 1."

CBS Sports: Round 1, No. 2 overall to Washington Commanders

The Commanders hired Kliff Kingsbury as their OC for a reason, and Daniels will run his system perfectly. The phrase "dynamic playmaker" is overused in football but use it as much as you want with the Heisman winner.

The buzz continues to build in the Heisman Trophy winner’s favor at No. 2, and don’t be surprised if the Commanders aggressively move to upgrade Daniels’ supporting cast via the draft (more on that in a bit).

The Athletic: Round 1, No. 2 overall to Washington Commanders

The draft winds will continue to swirl in unpredictable directions up until draft night. Right now, though, the buzz is pointing towards Daniels being the pick at No. 2. Truth is, new Washington general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn aren’t tipping their hands, so everyone is still guessing at this point.

Each of ESPN's Field Yates, Mel Kiper and Matt Miller have Daniels going No. 2 overall to the Commanders, as well:

Jayden Daniels scouting report

Here's a scouting report from USA TODAY's Draft Wire on Daniels:

"A super athlete that we haven’t seen since the likes of Kyler Murray and Lamar Jackson, Jayden Daniels possesses plenty of elite traits including many outside the regular bounds of the quarterback position. ... Daniels possesses a lighting quick release, is able to make gorgeous down the field throws, and has shown he keeps his eyes down the field when making excellent pocket breaking plays. ... Like Bryce Young last year there are concerns about the size and overall frame of Daniels."

Jayden Daniels' best 2024 NFL draft fit

Here's what USA TODAY Sports' Michael Middlehurt-Schwartz believes is the best fit for Daniels:

"It's a long way away from a consensus, but Daniels is hard to shake as the Commanders' potential target at No. 2. The Heisman Trophy winner's command from the pocket and ability to rip off big gains as a runner will be attractive features to whichever team drafts him. And while it would be a misnomer to call any quarterbacks 'safe' picks, Daniels stands above the competition for this slot in his readiness to serve as an offensive engine from Day 1."
