WFISD announces numerous coaching hires for new high schools

Wichita Falls ISD announced numerous coaching hires Monday for its two new high schools.

The coaching staffs at Memorial and Legacy high schools, due to open in August, are beginning to take shape, with personnel pulled from the current programs at Hirschi, Rider and Wichita Falls High.

Rider’s Marc Bindel (Memorial) and Hirschi’s Lawrence Johnson (Legacy) were announced as the new programs’ campus coordinators and head football coaches in December.

Both coaches were able to choose three assistants currently employed at WFISD to join them, although at least one of those hires had to come from another campus, keeping Bindel and Johnson from retaining three Rider or Hirschi coaches.

Bindel named Josh Castles as his assistant head coach and Ross Dillard as his defensive coordinator. He selected Wichita Falls High assistant Christopher Robinson-Evans as his special teams coordinator.

Johnson brought two Hirschi assistants with him, naming Jordan Criswell his defensive coordinator and Rahsaan Bell as associate head coach/co-offensive coordinator. Wichita Falls High offensive coordinator Jason Reynolds will hold the same position under Johnson at Legacy.

Other positions announced Monday include:

ATHLETIC TRAINERS: Rider’s Robert Doley and Hirschi’s Dan Brown were hired at Legacy with Old High’s Josh Burris and Rider’s Dr. Christanie Monreal heading to Memorial.

GOLF COACHES: Wichita Falls High’s Ryan Nimetz (boys) and Rider’s Cleveland Wallerich (girls) were chosen to lead Legacy’s program while Rider’s Dakota Robbins (boys) and Old High’s Colton Spikes (girls) are starting Memorial’s program.

CROSS COUNTRY: WFHS’ Cole Woodward is headed to Legacy, with Rider’s Robby Wood taking the job at Memorial.

SWIMMING: Longtime WFISD coach Oyvind Zahl will lead Memorial’s program with Old High’s Christina Koiner taking over at Legacy.

All coaching hires so far have been internal candidates, but that may change soon. WFISD has opened positions for outside applicants for tennis, volleyball and softball coaches.
