LEANDER — Gianna Angiolet scored 12 points as Westlake raced to an early 25-11 lead and held off Round Rock 47-34 in a Class 6A bi-district playoff victory Monday night at Rouse High School.

Sophomore Tamia King had another big night for the District 26-6A champion Chaparrals (26-5) as the post scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Bella Hesse finished with seven points, four assists and four steals. Katie Peiffer led the Dragons (25-9) with 10 points while Brooklyn Eubanks added seven.

“Round Rock is a really great team. They do a lot of things that are unconventional, which makes them tough to prep for,” Westlake coach Vickie Benson said. “I’m so proud of the girls for executing our game plan and being patient to let things come to us.“

Benson has guided the Chaps to a top-20 state ranking and their first district championship in five years. And Round Rock, despite graduating a pair of All-Central Texas standouts from 2023, posted consecutive 20-win seasons for the first time in at least three decades. The Dragons had won 20 games only once since 1992.

Both teams matched up defensively with strength on strength, but the Chaps' offense and shooting skills proved more than the young Dragons could handle.
