Week 10 winter sports top performers: Polk County's Gunnar Alm breaks home scoring record

Here are the WNC athletes who have had big performances this week in winter sports.

Keenan Wilkins, Christ School: Wilkins scored 20 points, but Christ School fell 63-57 to Covenant Day.

Friday

Girls basketball

Kylie Lewis, Polk County: Lewis scored 22 points with 14 boards, recording a double-double in a 54-48 loss to East Rutherford.

Thursday

Girls basketball

Ryann Hernandez, Asheville School: Hernandez scored 28 points and added 12 steals for a double-double in an 82-9 win over Carolina Day.

Marley Jones, Avery County: The freshman had 22 points to lead the Vikings to a 86-68 win over Owen.

Brooklyn Kenney, Blue Ridge Early College: Kenney scored 22 points, but the Bobcats lost 54-38 to Andrews.

Lilly Neill, Mountain Heritage: Neill led the Cougars with 16 points and nine boards in a 57-20 win over Madison.

Ellie Martin, Owen: Martin recorded a double-double with 22 points and 10 assists in Owen's 86-68 loss to Avery County.

Mia Roland, Owen: The freshman added a double-double of her own with 22 points and 18 rebounds.

Alissa Cheek, Rosman: Cheek's 24 points lifted the Tigers to a 59-40 win over Mitchell.

Boys basketball

Cameron Rattler, Andrews: Rattler's 23-point, 10-rebound double-double lifted Andrews over Blue Ridge Early College, 75-31.

Miki Gacic, Asheville School: Gacic had 16 points and the Blues beat Carolina Day 83-39.

Ethan Henson, Blue Ridge Early College: Henson scored 16 points in the Bobcats' 75-31 loss to Andrews.

CJ Landrum, Hendersonville: Landrum recorded his 11th double-double, tallying 16 points and 13 rebounds as the Bearcats beat Brevard 54-49.

Malachi Simpson, Hendersonville: Simpson added 20 points and nine rebounds.

Max Gilley, Mountain Heritage: Gilley's 16 points and nine rebounds aided in a 66-55 win over Madison.

Asante Martin, Owen: Martin scored 28 points to lead the Warhorses to a 75-69 victory over Avery County.

Aidan Warnock, Owen: The senior recorded 17 points and five rebounds.

Daxon Mason, Owen: Mason recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Gunnar Alm, Polk County: The sophomore followed up his record-breaking performance with 24 points and seven rebounds in a 79-52 loss to East Rutherford.

Max McDowell, Roberson: McDowell scored 27 points and made 5-of-7 3-point attempts in the Rams' 79-49 win over Enka.

Jacob McGraw, Roberson: McGraw added 16 points and six rebounds.

Wednesday

Girls basketball

Kensly Stewart, McDowell: Stewart led the Titans to an 81-35 win with 17 points.

Abby Wyatt, McDowell: Wyatt was second on the team with 15 points.

Gracie Edmonds, North Buncombe: Edmonds scored 16 points and grabbed nine boards in a 59-47 win over Enka.

Boys basketball

Kendrick Carter, Asheville High: Carter scored 16 points with nine rebounds in a 89-51 loss to McDowell.

Caiden Brewer, East Henderson: A 22-point, 10-rebound double-double from the junior helped East Henderson to a 60-57 win over Pisgah.

Brady Nix, East Henderson: Nix scored 14 points with six rebounds.

Rylan Parkins, McDowell: Parkins scored a career-high 39 points with 22 rebounds in an 89-51 win over Asheville High.

Custer Prenger, Smoky Mountain: Prenger recorded 18 points and 14 rebounds, but Smoky Mountain fell to Tuscola, 62-58, in overtime.

Tuesday

Girls basketball

Cali Queen, Franklin: Queen had 13 points and five rebounds for the Panthers in a 67-38 loss to West Henderson.

Ava Shook, Hayesville: Shook's 12 points and eight steals contributed to Hayesville's 56-13 win over Blue Ridge Early College.

Bailey Staton, Polk County: Staton scored 19 points to lead the Wolverines' 55-21 victory over Chase.

Kayden Lyda, West Henderson: Lyda scored 20 points with nine boards in a 67-38 victory over Franklin.

Boys basketball

Keenan Wilkins, Christ School: Wilkins scored 22 points to lead the Greenies to a win over Asheville School, 68-49. Wilkins made seven 3-pointers in the win.

Jamari Briggs, Christ School: Briggs' 14 points aided in the Christ School victory.

Max McClure, Franklin: McClure recorded 21 points and four rebounds in Franklin's 64-44 loss to West Henderson.

Malachi Simpson, Hendersonville: Simpson scored 23 points and added five rebounds, five steals and five assists but Hendersonville lost 77-64 to North Henderson.

CJ Landrum, Hendersonville: Landrum added 16 points with nine boards.

Coby Retana, Hendersonville: Retana scored 18 points for the Bearcats.

Noah Pierce, North Henderson: Pierce recorded a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds to guide the Knights past Hendersonville, 77-64.

Bryson Rowe, North Henderson: Rowe added another double-double for the Knights with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Gunnar Alm, Polk County: Alm scored 43 points, setting a new Polk County record for points scored in a home game. He finished one point shy of the program record 44 points.

Aaron Jackson, Polk County: Jackson added 21 points in Polk County's 83-67 victory over Chase.

Grant Putnam, West Henderson: Putnam guided the Falcons to a 64-44 win with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
