Wednesday's high school roundup: Windham rallies for wild win over Thornton Academy

Oct. 11—Windham erupted for four goals in the second half, including the go-ahead tally by Kyla Harvie, to rally for a 5-3 win over Thornton Academy in a Class A South girls' soccer match Wednesday night in Windham.

Thornton (9-3-1) led 2-1 at halftime after goals by Kayleigh Corriveau and Quincy Thibault.

Marley Jarvais tied it early in the second half with her second goal of the game, then set up a goal by Stella Jarvais that gave Windham (10-3) a 3-2 edge. Charlotte Belanger answered for Thornton, but Harvie broke the tie, and Mackenzie Delewski added an insurance goal.

Windham keeper Ale Hidell made seven saves. Thornton's Ava Lomax finished with 22 saves.

GORHAM 6, KENNEBUNK 1: Julia Reed scored four goals — three in the first half — as Gorham (10-1-1) rolled to a win at home.

Piper Forgues added a goal and two assists, and Ella LaBrie also scored for Gorham.

Kennebunk (1-10-1) got a goal from Anna McCarron, set up by Ava McCourt.

SCARBOROUGH 4, SANFORD 0: Lana Djuranovic scored all four goals as the Red Storm (12-1) eased past the Spartans (7-4-1) in Sanford.

Sophie Olivo made 12 saves for Sanford.

SOUTH PORTLAND 3, BIDDEFORD 0: Marina Bassett scored two goals and Stella Henderson had one as the Red Riots (6-4-2) cruised to a win over the Tigers (2-11) in South Portland.

BONNY EAGLE 2, MARSHWOOD 1: Gia Jalbert tied the game late in the first half and Annasophia Sawyer got the winner with about five minutes remaining, lifting the Scots (6-7) over the Hawks (5-7) in Standish.

MT. ARARAT 6, OXFORD HILLS 0: Elena Willis and Katherine Therriault scored in each half, leading the Eagles (8-3-1) over the Vikings (5-5-2) in Topsham.

Julianna Allen and Addison Allen added a goal apiece.

FIELD HOCKEY

SCARBOROUGH 2, FALMOUTH 0: Caroline Hartley had a goal and an assist to lead the Red Storm (6-6) past the Navigators (8-4) in Falmouth.

Scarborough took the lead late in the first quarter when a Hartley long hit was tipped in by Emma Lally.

Midway through the third quarter, Hartley scored on a rebound.

Scarborough goalie Jamila Mohamed made six saves.

The Navigators got six saves from Adele Gamage and two from Jenna Nunley.

GORHAM 1, NOBLE 0: Brooke Farquhar scored with an assist from Emerson Homa with 7:24 remaining, lifting the Rams (11-1) over the Knights (5-6) in North Berwick.

Gorham goalie Madison Tibbals made one save. Noble's Trinity Valle stopped 17 shots.

CHEVERUS 4, SANFORD 1: Lily Johnson and Lucy Johnson scored two goals apiece as the Stags (12-0) defeated the Spartans (6-5) in Portland.

Audrey Payeur scored for Sanford — just the third goal allowed this season by Cheverus.

BIDDEFORD 5, MARSHWOOD 1: Corinne Ramunno scored two goals, and Riley Langevin, Kayla Magnant and Hannah Loranger also scored as the Tigers (9-4) handled the Hawks (6-6) at Biddeford.

Ayla Lagasse contributed two assists, including her 100th career point.

Biddeford goalie Cadence Goulet made seven saves.

Marina Friedman scored for Marshwood, and Makayle Coy stopped 14 shots.

THORNTON ACADEMY 1, WINDHAM 0: Danica Hebert scored with an assist from Ella Riley, and Allison Marines earned the shutout as the Trojans (4-8) edged the Eagles (4-7) in Saco.

LEWISTON 2, CAMDEN HILLS 0: Savannah Connor-Schade's two goals lifted the Blue Devils (5-7) to a win over the Windjammers (4-6-2) in Rockport.

Connor-Schade scored in each half. Both were assisted by Gabby Thomas.

Lewiston goalie Sarah Mack got the shutout with seven saves.

Camden Hills goalie Abby Strout made nine saves, including one on a penalty stroke.

EDWARD LITTLE 3, BRUNSWICK 0: Leah Thibodeau scored all three goals, including two in a five-minute span of the first quarter, as the Red Eddies (8-5) earned a win over the Dragons (2-11) in Auburn.

Kasey Smith made three saves for the shutout.

Brunswick's Ella Duchette stopped eight shots, and Skyler Augustine made one save.

BOYS' SOCCER

BUCKFIELD 4, CHOP POINT 2: The Bucks (12-1) overcame a halftime deficit and claimed their eighth win in a row, defeating the Blue Bears (0-10) in Woolwich.

Chop Point, thanks to two goals by Simon Wilkinson, led 2-1 at halftime.

Seamus Keough scored three goals and Krosby Harvey netted one for Buckfield. Justin Lucas had two assists, and Neil Haylock made three saves.

Elie Lemelin assisted on one of Wilkinson's goals. Chop point keeper Nate Sullivan stopped 16 shots.
