Weekly roundup: Raine Rodich, Alex Bobb pile up points in nonleague wins

Several area teams took to the court on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and here are the results:

Friday's results

Boys Basketball

Sheridan 52, Fairfield Union 51: Raine Rodich hit the front end of a two-shot foul with 4.2 seconds left secured the Generals' comeback win in a nonleague tilt at Glen Hursey Gymnasium.

Max Stansberry's putback tied the game at 51 with 13 seconds left for Fairfield Union, but Rodich took the inbounds pass and rushed it up court for the final shot. He drew the foul going for the final shot.

Rodich, who fired in a game-high 25 points, missed the second charity toss. But 6-2 freshman Tyce Whiteman grabbed the rebound to prevent the Falcons from getting off a shot in the closing seconds.

Ten of Rodich's points came in the final quarter. Owen Cains and Whiteman added seven points for Sheridan, which trailed 19-13 after a quarter, 32-26 at the half and 42-38 after three quarters.

Caleb Schmelzer tallied 17 points and Caleb Redding 11 for Fairfield Union (6-3), which hosts Tri-Valley in a regional rematch on Tuesday.

Maysville 81, Carrollton 32: The Panthers (5-2) hit eight of their 14 3-pointers in the first quarter of a nonleague rout in Newton Township.

Alex Bobb fired in five 3s, hit all five of his free throws and piled up 32 points for Maysville, which led 33-15 after a quarter and 56-17 at the half. Bobb had 25 points in that span.

Gator Nichols hit four 3s among his 17 points, Wesley Armstead hit three long balls in an 11-point effort and Jordyn Watson score seven of his 10 in the first half for the Panthers.

Maysville hosts unbeaten IVC power Malvern (7-0) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Woodsfield Monroe Central 62, Morgan 40: Tucker Howell fired in 23 of his game-high 31 points in the first half to pace the Seminoles in a win at the Toronto Holiday Classic.

Howell had 13 points in the Noles' 24-point second quarter, as they took a 38-24 lead into halftime, then held the Raiders to just 16 points in the second half.

Tavian Myers had 14 points, Carson Mummey 12 and Luke Coleman six for Morgan.

Union Local 73, Cambridge 53: Junior Brandon Mehl knocked down five 3-pointers in the first quarter to jumpstart the visiting Jets to a 27-14 lead over the Bobcats after the opening period.

UL would go on to post a lopsided 73-53 Buckeye 8 Conference victory over the Bobcats inside Gene Ford gymnasium on Saturday evening.

Mehl finished with a game high 15 points, while adding double figure support were Alex Moore with 14, Easton Ditzler with 11 and Gannon Kerns finished with 10 markers for the winners.

Leading the Cambridge attack was junior guard Jesish Barnett with 11 points, along with five assists and a pair of steals. Sophomore Mason Gregg and junior Rylan Mathews each tallied 13 points to lead the Bobcats, while senior Regan Rogers added six points and four assists.

Union Local took the rebounding battle by a slim 39-36 margin with Kerns leading the way with 12. Junior Rylee Homko-Green pulled down 10 to lead CHS, with Mathews adding five rebounds.

Cambridge slips to 1-6 on the season with the loss, while Union Local improves to 7-1 with the Buckeye 8 road win.

Girls Basketball

Lakewood 44, Crooksville 28: The Lancers (3-7) pulled away in the fourth quarter for a home win against the Ceramics (1-8).

Grace Sturgell had 14 points and Jaylie Maas added 10 for Lakewood, which led 16-13 at halftime and 31-23 entering the fourth.

Meg Mumford scored eight and Rylee Chamberlin added seven for Crooksville.

Wrestling

Crooksville sixth at Newark Catholic: Hunter Browning won the title at 144 pounds, and the Ceramics finished sixth out of 17 teams with 148 points.

Christian Browning (138), Jacob Hammer (150) and Hunter Hurst (175) were second and James Bookless (215) took fifth for Crooksville.

Noah McFee placed first at 175 and Vince Coleman third at 106 for Zanesville, which was ninth (85.5), and West Muskingum was 14th (41), as Andrew Stark came in second at 190.

Thursday's results

Boys Basketball

River View 42, Ridgewood 39: Laired Williamson scored 16 points and hit the game-winning 3 at the horn as the Black Bears (4-5) edged the Generals (1-7) on the second day of the Coshocton County Holiday Classic.

Layton Massie added 11 points and Carter Wesney chipped in eight for River View, while Logan Ridenbaugh led Ridgewood with 12 points, Jackson Cabot had 11 and Grant Lahmers added eight.

Coshocton 78, Newcomerstown 43: Alex Taylor poured in a team-high 21 points with five rebounds, as the Redskins (6-1) turned an 18-12 first-quarter lead into a 39-21 halftime lead in a win at the Coshocton County Holiday Classic.

Blayden Workman had 14 points and five rebounds off the bench, Conkle added 11 points, seven assists and five steals and Logan Lonsberry scored eight for the winners.

Gavin Smith totaled 19 points and Damion Newkirk added 11 for the Trojans.

Coshocton reserves won 72-32 as Workman had 15 points, JJ Herman 13, Idreyiss Hoist 12 and Quinton Summers 10.

Hilliard Bradley 73, Tri-Valley 50: Terrell Darden tallied 16 with four assists, as the host Scotties (5-2) trailed 14-12 after one quarter then 39-25 at the half.

Nohah Nichols added nine points and four rebounds and Max Lyall scored eight in the loss.

Bradley (5-2) made 29 of 54 field goals — 11 of 23 3-pointers — with just four turnovers to Tri-Valley's 19-of-38 shooting with 16 turnovers.

Girls Basketball

Sheridan 54, Fairfield Union 34: Jamisyn Stinson was a stat sheet filler for the Generals (9-0) — 15 points, 17 rebounds, eight assists and seven steals — in a convincing nonleague road win against the neighboring Falcons.

Halle Warner (12 points) and Nora Saffell (10) also reached double figures for Sheridan, which hit 18 of 31 2-pointers (58 percent) and had 12 offensive rebounds. It led 23-14 at the half and 37-22 after three quarters, then hit 9 of 12 at the line in the final frame to further pull away.

Maddi Mitchell and Maycee Martindill had eight points for Fairfield Union (1-8).

Dover 44, John Glenn 43: Mya Oliver collected 19 points and Riley Zamensky added 14, but the Muskies (6-3) fell short in a back-and-forth battle with the Crimson Tornadoes.

John Glenn led 15-14 after one quarter, while Dover was up 24-22 at the half and 31-30 going to the fourth.

Morgan Karam led Dover (6-3) with 15 points and Ava Zobel added nine.

John Glenn reserves won 29-10 behind seven points each from Emmy Babcock and Faith Hayes.

Circleville 38, New Lexington 29: The Panthers fell behind 24-9 at the half, and trailed by as many as 21 points in the second half, of their nonleague road affair with the unbeaten Tigers (8-0).

New Lex slipped to 6-5.

Harrison Central 47, Cambridge 31: Senior Kiara Murphy had eight points and Eva Lamphear added seven, as the Bobcats dropped to 3-10 with a Buckeye 8 Conference road loss on Thursday.

Angi Ferri drilled a trio of 3-pointers to lead the host Huskies out to a quick 21-2 lead after the first quarter of play.

Junior Emma Krise and senior Destiny Garcia each added five points for Cambridge.

Wednesday's results

Boys Basketball

Coshocton 61, Ridgewood 57 OT: Colton Conkle sank two free throws with 1.2 seconds left in overtime as the visiting Redskins avoided the upset in the first day of the Coshocton County Classic in West Lafayette.

Conkle's 26 points, which included a 7-of-8 effort at the line, led all scorers.

Coshocton jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the game's first 2 1/2 minutes behind two 3s from Coby Moore and another from Logan Lonsberry.

Ridgewood battled back, closing within 19-13 after a quarter and took a 28-27 lead in the final minute of the half on a 3 from Jackson Cabot. Coshocton took the lead into halftime when Lonsberry hit a long 3 at the buzzer, making it 30-28.

The rest of the game was a dogfight, with Ridgewood taking a 51-47 lead with three minutes left before two turnovers helped Coshocton tie the game at 54 in the final seconds.

The Redskins milked the clock in the final minute to get a last-second shot, but Moore's 3 was offline, forcing overtime.

It was tied at 58 with 35 seconds left after Grant Lahmers scored on the block with 35 seconds left. Coshocton again held for the last shot, and Conkle went to the line after the Generals were called for a reach-in foul with :01.2 to go.

Conkle sank both, and a turnover on the inbounds pass led to a bucket at the buzzer.

Moore finished with 15 points and Lonsberry nine as Coshocton hit nine 3-pointers to help overcome 14 turnovers and a 37-26 rebounding disadvantage.

Cabot, a sophomore, had 17 points, Kole Robinson 16 and Grant Lahmers nine for Ridgewood, which hit eight 3s and had 15 turnovers.

Rosecrans 76, Steubenville Catholic Central 44: Brendan Bernath and Grady Labishak combined for five 3s in a 22-14 first quarter, and the Bishops (5-3) pulled away for a victory.

Labishak finished with 33 points, including six 3s, and eight assists and Bernath went for 15 points with four 3s and seven rebounds to lead Rosecrans, which made 13 of 26 behind the arc.

Xander Daniels chipped in 12 points, Tyler Bernett scored eight with six boards and James Goggin dished out six assists for the winners.

Benji Rook led the Crusaders with 13 points.

Zanesville 67, Philo 38: Rashaud Hampton poured in 21 points and Drew Doyle added 15 points for the Blue Devils (2-4), who built a 28-12 halftime lead in downing the Electrics (1-6).

Kooper Cain also had eight points for Zanesville, while Rusty Trout led Philo with 10 points and Talon Preston and Cooper Radcliffe added nine points apiece.

Lakewood 43, West Muskingum 39: Cade Porter and Tavin Bennett scored 10 each for the Tornadoes (3-5), who led 15-13 at the half, but the Lancers (3-3) took a 28-27 lead into the fourth and held on for the victory.

Colton Ferry collected 18 of his 20 points in the second half for the Lancers and Adam Crawford had 14 points.

River View 62, Newcomerstown 55: Layton Massie finished with 21 points and Hayden Walters added 15 points, as the Black Bears (3-5) overcome a 33-27 halftime deficit in a win on the first day of the Coshocton County Holiday Classic.

Gavin Smith finished with 21 points and Javyn Lafferty added 20 for the Trojans.

Girls Basketball

West Muskingum 72, Lakewood 43: Jayden Thornton collected 16 of her career-high 30 points as the Tornadoes (9-1) led 27-7 after one quarter in a non-league win.

Addy Antonetz hit a pair of 3s among her 14 points and Laney Johnson chipped in eight points as nine Tornadoes scored.

Grace Sturgell paced the Lancers with 15 points.

Tri-Valley 64, Indian Valley 17: Six players scored in a 17-2 first quarter, as the Scotties (7-3) rolled past the Braves.

Addison Wilson paced Tri-Valley with 13 points, while Jacie Rollison scored 11, Annika Collet added 10, Kylan Brock made three 3s for nine points and MacKenzie Harvey had eight.

No Indian Valley player had more than three points.

Cami Susil had 17 points and Audrey Wickerham 10 as the Tri-Valley reserves won 46-19.

Carrollton 70, Meadowbrook 32: Hillari Baker had 16 points and Paige Davis made five 3s for 15 points, as the Warriors (9-1) topped the Colts (2-6).

Wrestling

Morgan third at Fort Frye Invite: Joel Burkhart (138), Brayden Strode (144), Bradley Spencer (165), Tanner Bankes (175) and Logan Niceswanger (190) claimed titles for the Raiders, who scored 238 points to place behind Caldwell (248) and Waterford (247) in the 14-team meet.

Hayden Killen (120) and Owen McCoy (215) also placed fourth for Morgan.

Swimming

Tri-Valley girls win Festive and Fun Five Pentathlon: The Scotties tallied 73 points to claim the team title in the six-team meet, while the TV boys were third (40.5).

AJ Lawler, Mia Fuhriman, Jesi Fuhriman and Carter Dinan won the mixed 200 medley (1:53.22) and were second in the mixed 200 free, Lawler placed first in the boys 50 back (26.35), was third in the 50 fly and 100 IM and tied for third in the 50 free, Jesi Fuhriman took first in the girls 50 breast (33.59), tied for first in the 50 free (26.46) and placed second in the 100 IM and Mia Fuhriman was second in the girls 50 fly to highlight the Tri-Valley effort.
