Wednesday-Thursday Roundup: New Lex volleyball clinches share of division title

Here are the area results from Wednesday and Thursday, as the regular season nears its completion.

Volleyball

New Lexington 25, 25, 25, Maysville 13, 17, 5: Trinity Cook collected 11 kills, five digs and two aces and Chloe Dick collected nine kills and two digs, as New Lex secured a share of the Muskingum Valley League Small School Division title with Meadowbrook, which beat River View in three sets.

It was the program's first MVL title since 1982.

Abby Wilson added seven kills, three digs and two blocks, Gracie Newlon made eight digs with two aces and Brooklyn Burd hit two kills for the winners.

Bekah Scott made 13 digs, Olivia McPeek had 13 assists and seven digs and Rachel Jarvis added 12 digs, two kills and two blocks to lead Maysville.

Sheridan 25, 25, 25, Crooksville 4, 6, 16: Payton Powell went 24-of-25 serving with eight aces, seven digs, 20 assists and three kills as the Generals completed a 16-0 MVL season.

Dylan Fox added 13 assists, nine digs, six kills and 7-of-7 serving, Jamisyn Stinson hit nine kills with nine digs and Ava Heller chipped in 11 digs, six kills and four aces with 9-of-9 serving for Sheridan.

John Glenn 25, 25, 25, West Muskingum 19, 9, 16: Emma Briggs totaled nine kills, four digs and two blocks and Emma Dolan made 19 digs with seven kills and seven aces to send the Muskies (12-10, 8-8) past the Tornadoes.

Aleea Musselman added eight digs and four kills, Lauren Blair passed out 20 assists with 15 digs and Alaiah Johnson made seven digs for John Glenn.

Morgan 27, 25, 25, Philo 25, 18, 21: Evelyn Newton hit 13 kills, Blair Clawson collected 13 digs, six kills and two aces Ashtyn Filkins made 11 digs with a pair aces served to lead the Raiders past the Electrics.

Chloe Baker totaled 29 assists with eight digs and two aces, Paige Lanning had four digs and two kills, Myleigh Williams had three kills, Allia Rush hit nine kills and Jaden Dille had nine digs and Myka Augenstein had seven digs for the winners.

Caitlin Rose had six kills and two aces, Olivia Winland and Miley Krouskoupf made 11 digs apiece, Aleigha Busse tallied eight digs, five kills, three blocks and 100% serving and Halli Harris had 12 assists, six digs, two aces and 100% serving for the Electrics.

Tri-Valley 21, 25, 25, 25, Coshocton 25, 18, 23, 23: Eva Dittmar hit 25 kills and made 10 digs and Ingrid Dittmar passed out 30 assists with 15-of-16 serving and two aces, as the Scotties (12-9, 11-5) topped the host Redskins (10-12, 8-8) in a league crossover.

Annika Collet added nine kills and six blocks, Sami Cameron also made six blocks, Landyn Andrews had six digs, Iris Lacy hit five kills and Addison Wilson was 16-of-17 serving with three aces for Tri-Valley.

For the Redskins, Kenidi Jackson led the offense with nine kills and also had nine digs and two service aces, while Leah Mathias added eight kills and Lacey Guthrie pounded seven. Jaeli Tiedt dug up nine Tri-Valley attacks and Saige Abbott added seven and Tiedt was the leader from the end line as she served up six aces.

Girls Soccer

River View 3, West Muskingum 0: After a scoreless first half, the Lady Bears (10-5-2) scored three times to secure a MVL win.

Alyssa Fox scored her 23rd goal, assisted by Toni Werner, then Werner scored unassisted, and Delaney Cox scored the final goal, assisted by Kamryn McGinness, for River View.

Regan Foster had five saves, recording her sixth shutout on the season.

Sheridan 1, Philo 0: Claire Shriner scored off a Dylan Gibbs assist and keeper Kendall Harter posted the shutout, as the Generals (12-2-3, 7-1-2) edged the Electrics in MVL play.

Zanesville 2, Licking Valley 1: Rylee McCuen knocked in a pair of goals with Reagan Bailey assisting both as the Lady Devils (7-8, 3-4) capped the regular season with a win.

Reyna Dalton had four saves in goal.

Tri-Valley 4, Coshocton 0: The Scotties scored three times in the second half to secure a victory, but no leaders were reported.

Courtney Snyder had four saves and Sophia Skelton made a pair of non-keeper saves for the Lady Skins.

John Glenn 12, New Lexington 2: Riley Zamensky and Becca Spohn each had a hat trick, as the Muskies (11-4-1, 8-1) capped off the league season with a win over the Panthers.

Estelle Matheney and Ashlyn Rowe each kicked two goals and Olivia Perrin and Kaitlyn Huey added goals in the win. Zamensky also had four assists, Matheney chipped in two assists and Spohn, Huey, Anna Bennett and Kira Kaiser added an assist each and Jillian 'Bean' Sowers made three saves on five shots

Lilah Carson scored both goals for the Panthers (0-16-1, 0-8-1 MVL), while Skylar Albertine had six saves off 18 shots.

Morgan 5, Maysville 4: Kerisa Brown, Kyrie Valentine, Lexi Atkins and Miley Fulkerson all scored for the Panthers, but it wasn't enough in a loss to the Raiders.

Sydney Wilkes had two assists and Valentine, Afton Daniels also had assists and Josalynn Milatovich made nine saves for Maysville.

No leaders were available for Morgan.

Athens 1, Rosecrans 0: The Bishops fell to the Bulldogs in non-league play.

Boys Soccer

Granville Christian 2, Sheridan 1: Thad Nicodym scored the Generals' lone goal in a road loss.

Philo 1, Cambridge 0: The Electrics (8-8-1) set a school record for fewest goals allowed in a season and tied the school record for shutouts in a season.

Coshocton 7, West Holmes 1: Philip Csehi assisted Aiden Braxton's goal 11 seconds into the match, as the Redskins scored five times in the first half to top the Knights.

Braxton completed his hat trick in the first half and had two assists, Csehi added two goals and two assists, Adrian Barreda and Malachi Braxton also scored, Barreda and Justin Shearn also assisted goals and Kabe Bylaw made nine saves for the Redskins.

Wednesday's results

Girls Golf

John Glenn's Burris falls short of a state berth: John Glenn senior Addy Burris carded an 80 (41-39) and tied for 18th overall in the Division I district tournament at The Links at Echo Springs.

Burris admitted a tough start was the difference, though she was pleased with her performance on the back nine. She also appreciated the support during the event.

"It was challenging, but I recovered well on the back nine and made a birdie," Burris said. "It was a great experience and just being here was amazing. It was a great opportunity and such an accomplishment. I loved the support and really appreciate everyone here who supported me."

New Albany's Emerson Purcell carded a 70 to earn medalist honors, while the Eagles also won the team title with 297, as Mia Hammond added a 72.

Dublin Jerome was second (299) and Granville took third (332) to also earn team berths, and the individuals to advance were Olentangy Orange's Skylar Dean with a 72 and Marietta's Saylor Wharff and Olentangy's Meadow Tian each posted 74s.

Boys Soccer

Rosecrans 6, Harvest Prep 1: Tizian Schmelzer knocked in a hat trick and Grady Labishak added two goals and an assist in the Bishops' win.

Augie Rodgers also scored and Logan Brown and Steven Porter added assists for the winners.

John Glenn 5, New Philadelphia 2: The Muskies built a 3-0 halftime lead in dropping the Quakers.

Zanesville 2, Heath 1: Riley Needles knocked in the Blue Devils' first goal and Garrett McMillion added the game-winner in a Licking County League win.

Connor Baldwin and Cassius Sims had assists for Zanesville (7-7-2, 3-3-1).

Volleyball

John Glenn 25, 24, 19, 25, 15, Caldwell 23, 26, 25, 20, 13: Emma Briggs totaled 22 kills, 10 digs, six aces and two blocks and Emma Dolan contributed 16 kills, 14 digs, four aces and two blocks, as the Muskies (11-10) outlasted the Redskins.

Lauren Blair passed out 42 assists to go with 17 digs, Aleea Musselman made 21 digs with six kills and two blocks, Sarah Wayne chipped in 13 digs, Alaiah Johnson had nine digs, Faith Saxton made two blocks with two kills and Miley Ault also hit two kills for the winners.

Tusky Valley 25, 25, 25, Ridgewood 7, 17, 16: Skylar Wright had five kills, nine digs and three blocks and Kya Masloski added eight points two blocks in the Generals' loss.

Brynn Waters passed out nine assists with digs, Kaylee Belt made 13 digs, Ayanna Masters had four blocks and Megan Mainwaring had three kills for Ridgewood.

Buckeye Trail 25, 25, 25 Tuscarawas Central Catholic 22, 17, 15: The Lady Warriors picked up the Inter-Valley Conference road trip victory on Wednesday afternoon.

Anna McVicker led Buckeye Trail (14-6) with 11 points, four aces, 12 digs, four saves, eight assists and 15 kills in a busy night. Kayla Hinkle finished with nine points, 10 digs and three kills with Ally Carpenter adding seven points, six digs, two saves, two kills and a pair of blocks, senior Audrey King six points and 13 digs, and Sydney Patterson five points, eight digs and three saves.
