Wayne Hills grad Jaaron Hayek says he's signing with the Kansas City Chiefs

A Wayne grad appears to be heading to the reigning Super Bowl champions.

The Kansas City Chiefs invited Wayne Hills high school graduate and Villanova University alumni Jaaron Hayek to rookie minicamp as a tryout on Saturday. On Tuesday Hayek tweeted that he signed with the team and Wayne Hills football posted the same on Monday.

The Wayne resident participated in the Chiefs rookie training camp at the team facility. On Saturday, current players on the roster, recent draft picks, signed undrafted free agents, and rookie and veteran tryouts all practiced against each other.

Hayek tweeted on Monday evening "No better feeling than proving YOURSELF right! Thank you Lord!" alluding to how grateful he is for this opportunity.

The Chiefs posted on their website some stats from the players who participated in the practice. The current Super Bowl champions said Hayek drew several targets throughout the practice and caught most of them. Hayek drew up some highlights hauling a strong grab up the middle and catching multiple deep passes, according to the Chiefs press release.

In his senior year at Villanova, Hayek caught 35 receptions for 457 yards, and also caught four touchdown passes. He caught over 800 yards during the 2022 season and over 600 in the 2021 season. Hayek scored eight touchdowns in 2022 and nine in 2021.

The Wayne resident had an illustrious career at Villanova finishing third all time in 100+ yard receiving games with 11, fourth all time in receiving yards with 2,744 and fourth all time in receiving touchdowns with 29.

In his time at Wayne Hills, Hayek helped his high school team win the 2018 and 2016 North I Group IV football championships.

The 53 player roster for NFL teams is usually finalized in late August, but many who did not make the team have the opportunity to make the practice squad and from there fulfill their dream in player professional football.
