Watertown ends losing streak as Waldorf throws four TD passes

Oct. 18—WATERTOWN — Freshman Blake Waldorf continued to settle in as Watertown's quarterback last Friday night, throwing four first-half touchdown passes, including three to the senior he replaced, as the Purple Tigers terminated a five-game losing streak with a 48-6 win over Grundy County at Robinson Stadium.

It was the Purple Tigers' first win in the new Region 4-3A, putting them back in the playoff race at 1-2 and 3-5 overall.

Waldorf threw a 44-yard screen pass to Marcus Reynolds and throws of 5, 52 and 39 yards to Bret Price, who was the starting quarterback until Waldorf came in during the second quarter of the game at Lebanon three weeks earlier. He finished the night 18-of-21 passing for 291 yards and the four scores.

A sack and 42-yard return by Kwame Seay of a Grundy County fumble upped Watertown's lead to 35-0 going into halftime and started the running clock.

Adam Cooper made it 42-0 with a 1-yard run in the third quarter.

Grundy County, which returned to Monteagle Mountain 4-4, 1-2, scored on a 13-yard pass in the fourth quarter.

Watertown answered with a 5-yard touchdown run by freshman Xa'Kurion Burns.

The Tigers will host Class 4A Macon County at 7 p.m. this coming Friday in their home finale.
