WATCH: Trey Smith discusses Chiefs’ Super Bowl win, upcoming title defense

It has been a busy offseason of celebration for Kansas City Chiefs players.

After an extended 2022 NFL season due to their Super Bowl LVII win, they saw an extended celebration from the Super Bowl parade, to their White House visit, all the way to their recent private ring ceremony.

Speaking to Mike Garafolo on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football”, Chiefs starting right guard Trey Smith was asked to compare and contrast his visit to the White House and the Super Bowl LVII ring ceremony.

“It’s hard to compare the two, such great moments,” Smith said. “I think going to the White House for me, is just something you dream of as a child. Obviously, winning a Super Bowl ring is another childhood dream come true. So, it’s hard to compare which I enjoy most, but I’ll just say this, they were really memorable experiences that I’ll never forget.”

Smith spoke a bit on the Super Bowl ring, making sure that it was tight on his finger and the top is secure every time he puts it on.

“I don’t want to lose that,” He said, with a smile.

NFL Network shared a clip from “Trey Day” in Smith’s hometown of Jackson, Tennessee this offseason. There and then, they celebrated the recently crowned Super Bowl champion.

“It’s just surreal,” Smith said. “Not winning a championship in any sport leading up to it and then you win a world championship in the Super Bowl. It’s a special moment. Something you always work for and to be able to achieve (my) goals, was really surreal. It was special.”

Finally, Smith touched on the upcoming season, where the team will have to start anew and defend their Super Bowl title. It sounds like you won’t hear much “Run It Back” talk during this title defense from Kansas City. Smith seems to suggest he and the rest of the team will be taking a day-by-day approach.

“That’s the beautiful thing about football,” Smith said. “At the end of the day, we have to come back the next year and show the reason why we won it the first time. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter that we won it last year. We just have to be consistent, do what we do and do what our coaches tell us to do and execute at a high level on the field. We have to take it week by week and opponent by opponent. We can’t look too far ahead and look to the future and say we’re going to do these different things when we’ve got to look in the present and understand the task at hand.”
