Watch: Shohei Ohtani runs across outfield to greet his hero, Ichiro

Shohei Ohtani is becoming a baseball legend in his own right, but the Los Angeles Angels star never misses a moment to pay respect to a man who came before him: Ichiro Suzuki.

Prior to the Angels' Monday game against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park, Ohtani was warming up on the field when he spotted his icon. He jogged all the way from left field to right field to greet the 10-time All-Star. Ohtani takes off his baseball cap and bows to his fellow Japanese star before shaking his hand.

The two share a few words before Ohtani bows again and runs back to his warmup.

Here's exactly how far he ran.

The Angels won the game 7-3 with Ohtani hitting a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

Ohtani has been paying tribute to Ichiro since his rookie year in 2018. He's always greeted him with a bow of respect and a grin like a child.

"I have nothing but the utmost respect for him," Ohtani said in 2018 ahead of a game against the Mariners.

The two never got to play against each other as Ichiro was moved to a front office role that season.

"What he has done for this game, our country and the fans," Ohtani continued. "I wish we could have played against him, but it wasn't meant to be. Wish nothing but the best for him moving forward."
