Watch: Rutgers football legend Eric LeGrand has ‘Messi Mania’

Eric LeGrand is seemingly everywhere these days. The former Rutgers football player, now a radio analyst and entrepreneur, made his way to Red Bull Arena on Saturday night to watch Inter Miami and Lionel Messi in action.

The MLS match was the biggest sports event of the weekend in the tristate area (sorry New York Jets and Aaron Rodgers fans). With over 26,000 fans in attendance, the largest crowd ever at Red Bull Arena, Inter Miami secured three points with a 2-0 victory over the Red Bulls.

It was the MLS debut for Messi, who is considered the greatest active player in international soccer and argued by many to be the greatest player ever in the history of the game. Messi signed with Inter Miami this summer

LeGrand was one of several notable VIPs in attendance on Saturday night including musician Fat Joe, actor Kal Penn and New Jersey governor Phil Murphy among others.

Messi, who came into the match in the second half, scored late in the game ot secure the road win for Inter Miami.

LeGrand has become quite the soccer fan, frequenting Red Bulls games as well as Gotham FC, the local NWSL team.

No word if Messi stopped by LeGrand Coffee House on his way out of town for his daily cup of ‘Believe.’

Also in attendance on Saturday night was Rutgers men’s soccer head coach Jim McElderry. He attended the match with his son, Liam, who is a standout defender at Delbarton.
