Watch Matt Prater get an insanely lucky bounce to make a long field goal

We’ve seen field goals hit the upright and ricochet through on an angle for a successful field goal. You won’t often see one bounce in off the crossbar like a soft jump shot.

You can’t say Detroit Lions kicker Matt Prater got a “shooter’s roll” on his 56-yard attempt near the end of the first half on Monday night … is there such thing as a kicker’s roll?

Prater, one of the best long-range kickers in NFL history, hit his attempt pretty well against the New York Giants but it’s a long kick. It hit the crossbar and went straight up in the air. And it barely went over for three points.

Prater couldn’t do that again on 100 more attempts. Just look at how soft the bounce was. Incredible.

For Prater, it was his 12th straight make on attempts of 50 yards or more. He barely got the one against the Giants through.
