Williamsport’s Paige Smith, Boonsboro’s Sean Cornell voted Washington County Athletes of the Week

Williamsport’s Paige Smith and Boonsboro’s Sean Cornell were voted The Herald-Mail’s Washington County Athletes of the Week for Dec. 5-10.

The voting was conducted online Monday afternoon through noon Thursday.

Smith, a senior basketball player, earned the girls honor with 39.53% of the vote (251 votes). She scored a game-high 26 points, including six 3-pointers, in a 52-35 win over Fort Hill, and in a 46-38 win over North Hagerstown, she made 10 of 10 free throws and finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and seven steals.

Cornell, a senior wrestler, was the boys winner with 52.5% of the vote (368 votes). He went 6-0 with six pins, each in less than a minute, in the 285-pound weight class at the Battle in the Boro, helping lead the host Warriors to the team title.

The other boys nominees were Heritage’s Caleb Stamper (basketball) and South Hagerstown’s Jacob Stoner (indoor track).

The other girls nominees were St. Maria Goretti’s Danica Bennett (basketball) and Smithsburg’s Grace Ellis (indoor track).
