Warriors’ Jonathan Kuminga to miss preseason finale with injury

Jonathan Kuminga will not play in the Golden State Warriors‘ preseason finale on Friday versus the Portland Trail Blazers due to a right patellar tendon strain.

Kuminga suffered the injury on Oct. 6 in the fourth quarter against the Denver Nuggets. The exact play when it occurred is not known but he left the game under his own power and would not return.

The Warriors announced the following day he would miss at least one week.

Kuminga played sparingly with the Warriors during his two preseason games. He registered just eight points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal in 17 minutes between his two appearances, only playing in the second half in each contest.

The Warriors have yet to provide an official update on Kuminga, leaving his status for the regular-season opener on Tuesday in question. The team will not rush him back too soon and, with his role undetermined, there likely isn’t a great need for him to start the season.
