NORTH CANTON — The Walsh University men's basketball team will be heading to Indianapolis for March Madness.

The Cavaliers are the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Division II Tournament's Midwest Regional. They will face No. 6 Lake Superior State (21-8) on Saturday in the opening round of the eight-team regional hosted by the University of Indianapolis. Tip-off time is noon.

Walsh (24-5) was rewarded with a higher seed after winning last week's Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament. The Cavs went into the week ranked sixth in the Midwest.

If the Cavs beat Lake Superior State, they could face No. 2 Kentucky Wesleyan (21-8) in the second round. Walsh and Kentucky Wesleyan shared the G-MAC regular season championship. The Panthers will meet No. 7 Upper Iowa in their tournament opener.

Indianapolis (22-8) received the No. 1 seed despite losing in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. They Greyhounds will open against No. 8 William Jewell (21-10), the team that beat them in the semifinal.

The other first round matchup features No. 4 Northern Michigan facing No. 5 Ferris State (25-7).

The regional semifinals will be played on Sunday. The championship game is set for Tuesday, March 19.
