See who won Week 3 Savannah-area high school football player of the week honors

Week 3 of the high school football season in the Greater Savannah area saw some stellar performances by teams and individual players.

Savannah Morning News readers weighed in selecting the winner through an online poll. St. Andrew's sophomore Amari Cook was the winner -- taking home 39.95% of the vote. He ran for 148 yards and a score on 10 carries, with 51 yards receiving and had four tackles and an interception in a win over John Paul II.

Bryan County senior Austin Clemons was second (32.31%) and Kenry Wall of Savannah Christian took 17.51% of the vote to finish third.

Luke Kromenhoek, Benedictine

The senior threw a touchdown pass to La'Don Bryant and ran for another score in a 27-14 win at Westminster

Nick Bliss, Richmond Hill

The versatile senior racked up 157 all-purpose yards and scored three touchdowns in a 28-7 win over Jenkins.

Jake Merklinger, Calvary Day

The senior completed 16 of 22 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns and ran six times for 44 yards and another score in a win over Eagle's Landing Christian.

A.J. Butts, Effingham County

The senior starred on both sides of the ball for the Rebels in a win over Statesboro — scoring on a 20-yard touchdown run and playing well at linebacker, registering a sack in the victory.

RaShawn Truell, New Hampstead

The junior was 17 of 31 passing for 213 yards and three touchdowns in a win at Bradwell Institute.

Christopher Garrett, Bradwell Institute

The senior threw for a career-high 368 yards — completing 20 of 37 passes with thee scoring strikes, while rushing for another score, in the loss to New Hampstead.

Kaden DeGenero, South Effingham

The senior quarterback had a pair of scoring passes in a 35-0 win at Islands.

Amari Cook, St. Andrew's

The sophomore starred on both sides of the ball in a win over John Paul II. Cook ran for 148 yards and a score on 10 carries, with 51 yards receiving and had four tackles and an interception in the victory.

Trenton Tukes, Groves

The senior quarterback hit Avion Dillard with a 50-yard touchdown pass and also connected with Makel Brown on a scoring pass in a win over Savannah High.

Stephen Fox, Savannah High

The junior had about 150 yards rushing and had a touchdown run and touchdown catch in the loss to Groves.

Justin Hicks, Windsor Forest

The junior connected on a 23-yard field goal with 20 seconds left to lift Windsor Forest to a 10-7 win over Johnson.

Austin Clemons, Bryan County

The senior rushed for 167 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 19 carries -- scoring from 68 and 15 yards in a win over Wheeler County. He was also a standout defensively with 12 tackles in the 20-0 win.

Kenry Wall, Savannah Christian

The junior had 140 all-purpose yards, with two catches for 76 yards and a touchdown, and added four tackles and a pass defended in a loss to Marist.
