Vote for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week

Ten athletes from across the High Desert are in the running for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week.

Daily Press readers can vote for their favorite high school athletes at the newspaper's website.

The poll closes on Wednesday night.

Here are the choices for the week, based on performances from April 22 to 27.

Prep Softball: Players to Watch list as the CIF-SS playoff brackets are released

  • Aiden Carlson, Academy for Academic Excellence softball — Aiden helped the Knights to two victories over Excelsior last week. In an 18-0 victory on April 22, Aiden struck out two batters and allowed one hit in the circle, and went 4 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs. Aiden followed up by going 3 for 4 with three RBIs, two runs and two stolen bases in a 17-6 victory on April 24.

  • Arlan Koester, Hesperia Christian — Arlan helped the Patriots to two victories, including striking out seven batters in a 12-4 victory over Big Bear on April 24. He had a big day at the plate in a 16-9 victory over Desert Christian on April 26, going 5 for 5 with four RBIs, four runs and two stolen bases.

  • Dani Jackman, University Prep softball — Dani had a big day at the plate as she hit the 20th home run of a memorable senior season. Dani went 3 for 3 with a grand slam and a walk in an 18-0 victory over Riverside Prep on April 24.

  • Eric Poindexter, Granite Hills tennis — Another season of dominance is in the book for Eric as he captured the Desert Sky League title for the fourth consecutive season. At the DSL Finals, hosted by Granite Hills on April 24, Eric swept Silverado's Christian Sauceda with two bagels to earn the crown. He also beat Adelanto’s Angel Valdovinos (6-1, 6-0) in the semifinals.

  • LJ Borrego, Sultana baseball — LJ had a big hand in helping the Sultans capture second place in the Mojave River League standings with two victories over Apple Valley last week. In a 16-1 victory on April 24, LJ went 3 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs in a 16-1 victory on April 24. In the season finale on April 26, LJ struck out 11 batters and allowed five hits over eight innings in a 2-0 victory.

  • Keith Williams, Oak Hills baseball — Keith helped the Bulldogs to two victories over Hesperia, as they ended the season unbeaten in Mojave River League play. Keith smacked a two-run home run in a 7-1 victory on April 22, and then went 2 for 3 with a triple, two RBIs and a run in a 6-2 victory on April 26.

  • Mariah Rodriguez, Barstow softball —  Mariah collected eight hits in two victories over Granite Hills last week. Mariah began the week by going 3 for 4 with a grand slam and two runs in a 12-7 victory on April 23. Mariah ended the week, and the regular season, by going 5 for 5 with a home run, two RBIs in a 12-10 victory on April 25.

  • Nate Carlson, Academy of Careers & Exploration golf — Nate continued his dominance in two Cross Valley League matches last week. Nate began the week on April 23, leading the Eagles to a team score of 118 as he carded a 33 on the east course at Silver Lakes Country Club. Nate ended with a 35, two over par, on the Sycamore course at Ashwood Country Club on April 25 as ACE shot a team score of 185.

  • Sam Spencer, Oak Hills softball — Sam had a helping hand in two victories for Oak Hills. On April 22, the Bulldogs beat Serrano by going 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run in a 14-0 victory over Serrano. Sam went 2 for 2 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs in a 23-0 victory over Hesperia on April 24.

  • Savannah Vanderpool, Sultana softball — Savannah continued to rack up the strikeouts in the circle, helping the Sultans to capture the outright Mojave River League title. On April 22, Savannah struck out seven batters in three innings, and went 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs in a 17-1 victory over Hesperia. Savannah ended the season by striking out eight batters over five innings, and going 3 for 5 with two RBIs in a 21-2 victory over Apple Valley on April 24.

Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week's games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.
