Vote for the SouthCoast High School Softball Player of the Week for April 15-21

The winner of last week’s Softball Player of the Week poll was Wareham’s Jolee Anderson. She had more than 8,000 votes (30%) to receive the honor. In an extra inning loss to Westport, Anderson pitched four innings, allowing one earned run off two hits with seven strikeouts. She also went 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored.

The preview winner was Wareham’s Samantha Purcell. The winner of the Preseason Softball Player of the Year poll was New Bedford’s Hayleigh Chenard.

Each week during the regular season, we will highlight the top performances.

VOTE: Baseball Player of the Week for April 15-21

Lauren Bernaiche, Apponequet

Bernaiche pitched a complete game against Somerset Berkley, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts. She also pitched two shutout innings with one hit, one walk and five strikeouts against Bishop Stang. Against GNB Voc-Tech, she went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

Caleigh Venuti, Apponequet

In a loss to Voc-Tech, Venuti went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run.

Eva Zuber, Apponequet

Zuber went a combined 4-for-6 with a walk, a double, a home run, three RBIs and four runs scored in a pair of games for Apponequet.

Alaina Chasse, Bishop Stang

Chasse pitched seven innings in a win over Apponequet, allowing seven hits with four strikeouts.

Katie Manzone, Bishop Stang

In two games, Manzone went a combined 2-for-6.

Kistyn Mello, Bishop Stang

Mello had an RBI sacrifice bunt to lift the Spartans to a 2-1 win over Apponequet.

Megan Arruda, Dartmouth

Arruda struck out 11 in a complete-game win over Fairhaven.

Paige Martins, Dartmouth

In a win over Fairhaven, Martins went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

Ava Morrison, Fairhaven

In a pair of games against Bourne and Dighton-Rehoboth, Morrison went a combined 5-for-5 with a walk, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Arden Bradshaw, Fairhaven

Bradshaw struck out seven, walked two and allowed just one hit in a win over Bourne. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.

Sydney Merusi, Fairhaven

Merusi went a combined 5-for-6 with a walk, an RBI and three runs scored in a pair of games against Bourne and Dartmouth.

Stella Zangao, Fairhaven

Against Bourne, Zangao went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

SOFTBALL: GNB Voc-Tech senior has waited three years for this moment and she's making the most of it

Lauren Fernandes, GNB Voc-Tech

Fernandes pitched her first varsity game against Old Rochester, earning the victory on the mound for the Bears, giving up three runs on two hits with 10 strikeouts and five walks.

Emma Machado, GNB Voc-Tech

Machado went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored against Old Rochester.

Genesis Nunes, GNB Voc-Tech

In three games, Nunes went a combined 8-for-11 with a walk and five runs scored.

Ana Tsonis, GNB Voc-Tech

Tsonis allowed three runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out three in a win over Apponequet. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run and two runs scored.

Amelia Davis, New Bedford

Against Milton, Davis went 5-for-5 with a single, two doubles and two home runs, including a grand slam, and scored four runs and had six RBIs for New Bedford.

Ivy Mattos, New Bedford

Mattos had a three-run home run and a single against Somerset Berkley. She also went 4-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs against Milton.

Sharon Delancey, Old Colony

Against Upper Cape, Delancey captured her first varsity win on the mound, allowing five earned runs on one hit with four strikeouts over five innings. At the plate, Delancey went 3-for-5 with a double, triple, four runs scored and four RBIs.

Kayleigh DeSousa, Old Colony

DeSousa went 4-for-5 and hit for the cycle with a single, double, triple and two-run home run against Upper Cape. She scored three runs and had eight RBIs.

Madison Mello, Old Rochester

Mello had 10 strikeouts on the mound and went 2-for-4 at the plate in a loss to Wareham.

Jolee Anderson, Wareham

Against ORR, Anderson went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBIs.

Madison Nereu, Wareham

Nereu pitched seven innings against Old Rochester, allowing four earned runs off seven hits with 12 strikeouts. She also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and four runs scored.
