LaPorte's Rylan Kieszkowski wins South Bend Tribune Athlete of the Week vote, Nov. 27 - Dec. 3, 2023

Congratulations to LaPorte senior Rylan Kieszkowski for winning the South Bend Tribune Athlete of the Week vote for Nov. 27 - Dec. 3, 2023. Kieszkowski won a very competitive vote, as the lead changed multiple times Tuesday. The Slicer standout held off a late charge from NorthWood's Naima Ghaffar to win the vote Wednesday afternoon.

Kieszkowski had a huge game against Plymouth Thursday, scoring 34 points and grabbing seven rebounds in a 74-59 win. He followed that up by leading his team with 13 points in a 46-36 victory over New Prairie Saturday.

RUNNER-UP: NorthWood girls wrestler Naima Ghaffar

Ghaffar won the 120B weight class at the Sarah Hildebrandt Invitational Saturday, pinning her first three opponents in the first round before winning the title match via forfeit.

OTHER NOMINEES

Goshen boys swimmer Levi Moser

Moser had a big week for the RedHawks, setting a new school record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.51 seconds. The previous record had stood for 27 years. Moser helped Goshen pick up an NLC win over Plymouth Thursday and a victory in its home relays event Saturday.

Penn girls wrestler Jezel Guerro

After receiving a first-round bye, Guerro went on to dominate her final three matches of the day, winning all three by pin in less than a minute to win the 235B weight class at the Sarah Hildebrandt Invitational.

South Bend Riley boys basketball player Marvin Schindler

Schindler was big in three wins for the Wildcats this week, including scoring 20 points in a 71-61 victory over Jimtown and 18 in a 52-48 win over Marian.

South Bend Saint Joseph boys basketball player Chase Konieczny

Konieczny scored 23 points in a win over Concord Tuesday, 14 in a victory over South Bend Adams Friday and 25 in a close 75-72 loss to Chesterton Saturday night.
