Don Bosco voted North Jersey Football Team of the Week for Week 10

Ramsey, NJ-- September 23, 2023 -- Don Bosco head coach Dan Sabella in the first half as Bergen Catholic defeated Don Bosco 38-15 in their football rivalry played at Don Bosco in Ramsey on September 23, 2023.

After four days of voting, Don Bosco was selected as the North Jersey Football Team of the Week.

The 10th-seeded Ironmen (5-5) dominated the fourth and rallied to defeat No. 7 Pope John, 28-17, in a Non-Public A opener. In the fourth, Deven Sisler and Dante DeLuca each ran for their second TDs, while the defense stepped up and Jayden Brown and Vincent Bertone had interceptions.

Here were the other nominees:

Butler

The Bulldogs (9-1) knocked off then-unbeaten Weequahic, 21-14, in a North 2, Group 1 semifinal. Bobby Battipede threw for 122 yards, featuring a 4-yard score to Mikey Henehan. Kyle Perry ran for 92 yards, including the go-ahead 1-yard score in the fourth. PJ Coffey opened the scoring with a 6-yard TD run.

Dwight Morrow

The Maroons (8-1) won the SFC Ivy Division title, 28-18, over Teaneck. Damani Williams threw for 145 yards and two TDs and ran for 123 yards and a score. Maurice Williams caught two TDs. Jordan Moorer ran for 124 yards, and a pivotal two-point conversion. Arieyon Williams ran for a fourth-quarter TD.

Hawthorne

The Bears (8-2) avenged a September loss to Hasbrouck Heights with a 34-9 win in a North 1, Group 1 semifinal. Tyler Menne threw for 213 yards, with two TD passes to Matt Lorper and one to Cormac Smith. Menne ran for a TD and had seven tackles. Logan Sakir’s 12-yard TD run opened the scoring.

Lakeland

The Lancers (8-3) stunned New Jersey by snapping Caldwell’s state-leading 37-game winning streak with a 33-28 upset in a North 2, Group 2 semifinal. Collin Sabric threw for 310 yards and four TDs, including fourth-quarter scores of 35 yards to Jake Spear (3 TD catches) and 25 yards to Aidan Thacker.

Northern Highlands

The third-seeded Highlanders (9-2) beat No. 2 Ridge, 31-26, in a North 1, Group 4 semifinal. Nate Johnson threw for 233 yards and two TD passes to Fred Kanning. Johnson ran for 74 yards and a TD, and Matthew Boydell ran for a score. Peter Vafiadis converted all four extra points and a 37-yard field goal.

Passaic Valley

The Hornets (7-2) are the lowest seed – No. 6 – in North Jersey to reach a sectional final thanks to a 28-13 semifinal win over Montville in North 2, Group 3. Damian Kribs threw for 131 yards, with a 58-yard TD to Karim Elsaadany, and ran for two scores. Eric Allmendinger ran for 92 yards and a TD.

Tenafly

The Tigers (6-3) head toward their Thanksgiving rivalry game vs. Dumont on a five-game winning streak after a 22-21 victory over Hopatcong. . Asher Zorn ran 18 times for 130 yards and a TD. Zorn threw for 94 yards, including two scores, and a win-sealing two-point conversion to Devin Knause.
