Mount Olive wrestler Tyeler Hagensen voted Morris/Sussex Athlete of the Week

After four days of voting, Mount Olive senior wrestler Tyeler Hagensen was selected as the Morris/Sussex Athlete of the Week.

Hagensen became just Mount Olive's second NJSIAA wrestling champion on Saturday. In a semifinal, he defeated Christian Brothers freshman Paul Kenny, a U-17 world champion, with five seconds left. Hagensen topped Johnathon McGinty of St. Joseph (Montvale), 5-2, in the 113-pound NJSIAA final.

Here were the other nominees:

Caitlin Hart

Vernon junior wrestler

Hart became Vernon's first female three-time state medalist. A two-time Region champion, Hart finished fourth at the NJSIAA individual championships.

Eli Kaufman

Montville senior bowler

Kaufman bowled a 247 in the final to lead undefeated Montville to the NJSIAA Group 3 team title on Wednesday. He carded a 1,270 over six games to place seventh in the individual tournament on Thursday.

Sophia Klecha

Pequannock sophomore wrestler

Klecha finished fourth at 120 pounds at the NJSIAA girls wrestling championships in Atlantic City. The 11th seed, she went 4-2 with four pins and two losses by decision. Klecha had placed second at the North 1 region, winning three matches by fall. She is the first Pequannock girl to appear in a region final and to qualify for the NJSIAA individual tournament.

Charlotte Tuhy

Madison junior forward

Tuhy led all scorers in each of Madison's three playoff games this week, including 28 as the Dodgers beat host Secaucus to win the North 2, Group 2 sectional title.

Gabby Yannotta

Chatham junior fencer

Yannotta went 2-1 in foil at the NJSIAA team final against Holy Angels on Thursday. She came from behind to win her second bout, 5-4, after going 5-1 in the first round. She went 5-1, 5-1, 5-3 as the Cougars won the semifinal against Livingston.
