Meet the Louisville-area high school girls athlete of the week from Whitefield Academy

As we kick off the new year, it's time to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our local athletes.

Whitefield Academy's senior standout, Allison Spieker, has earned the title of The Courier Journal's Athlete of the Week for the third week in a row, following her 32-point performance against South Central. Spieker also scored 18 points in the Wildcats’ 65-8 win over Presentation.

Aubryonna Durrah of Western finished second in the poll.

Be sure to check back Monday morning to vote again for The Courier Journal's athlete of the week. The poll closes on Thursday at 6 p.m. and the winner will be announced Friday.

Aubryonna Durrah, Western, basketball

Western's Aubryonna Durrah had a pair of great games in last week's Western Girls Holiday Hoops Classic. The junior posted a double-double (19 points, 11 rebounds) in the Warriors' opening round, a 59-41 loss to Waggener. The forward returned the next game to contribute 12 points and 11 rebounds, guiding Western to a 52-39 victory against Atherton.

Destiny Jones, Central, basketball

Central senior Destiny Jones, a double-double machine, dropped 29 points and hauled in 16 rebounds in the Yellow Jackets' 72-41 victory over Webster County. In her next outing, the forward scored 14 points and added eight rebounds. Central lost, 58-48, to Franklin-Simpson.

Payton Miller, Holy Cross, basketball

Holy Cross senior Payton Miller was a force last week. In the opening round of the 4 Bank Winter Classic, Miller scored 21 points in the Cougars' 67-35 win against Collins. In the next round, the senior dropped 23 points to lead her team to a 59-47 win over Garrard County.

Whitefield Academy guard Allison Spieker has been on a hot streak over the past couple of weeks. The senior scored 32 points in a 63-33 win over South Central of Elizabeth, Indiana. She followed up the outing with an 18-point performance in the Wildcats' 65-8 blowout against Presentation.

Adrionna Vogedes, Fairdale, basketball

Fairdale senior Adrionna Vogedes dominated in last week's game against Iroquois. The guard scored 32 points to help lift the Bulldogs to a 53-47 win over the Raiders.
