Results: Honda Cars of Aiken Augusta-area High School Athlete of the Week reader poll
It's time to vote for this week's Honda Cars of Aiken Augusta-area High School Athlete of the Week.
Greenbrier's Cameron Lui took the top spot with 66.46 percent of the vote. Butler's Karen Nimo finished runner-up with 20.73 percent.
The athletes featured in this poll represent the best on-field performers from the past week of high school sports competitions around the Augusta area. Nominees for the Honda Cars of Aiken Augusta-area High School Athlete of the Week
Cameron Lui, Greenbrier boys’ lacrosse
Lui recorded 10 ground balls and three takeaways in a 10-4 win over Brookwood last week.
Arieana Bacon, Greenbrier girls’ wrestling
Bacon earned the state title in the 155-pound weight class at the GHSA traditional state wrestling meet over the weekend. It was the fourth time she placed at the state tournament, the first in program history to do so.
Sebastian Melendez, Greenbrier boys’ wrestling
Melendez finished runner-up in the 150-pound class at the state meet and became the first Greenbrier boys’ wrestler to place three times in a career.
Shaniyah McDaniel, Grovetown girls’ wrestling
McDaniel finished runner-up in the 115-pound class at the state meet over the weekend.
Boston Rowan, Grovetown baseball
Rowan went 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and six RBI in a 24-4 win over Westside last week. He also added a hit in three at-bats in a win over Thomson.
Greg Doman, Aquinas baseball
Doman went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, four RBI and three runs scored in an 18-13 loss to Richmond Academy at SRP Park last week.
Ben Baker, Westminster Schools of Augusta baseball
Baker went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a walk, two runs scored and three stolen bases in an 8-7 win over Aquinas last week.
Parker Hollimon, Augusta Prep baseball
Hollimon went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored in a 9-7 win over Hephzibah last week.
Logan Heyward, Hephzibah baseball
Heyward went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI in a 9-7 loss to Augusta Prep.
Karen Nimo, Butler girls’ basketball
Nimo scored a team-high 24 points in a 54-46 win over Thomson in the Region 4-AA semifinals last week. She also added 13 points in the region title win over Josey Friday.
Za’miyah Jenkins, Josey girls’ basketball
Jenkins recorded a double-double (11 points, 14 rebounds) in the Region 4-AA championship loss to Butler.
Maci Butler, Curtis Baptist girls’ basketball
Butler recorded a double-double (15 points, 15 rebounds) in a 41-25 win over Richard Winn Academy in the SCISA Class A state playoffs.
Connor Cannon, Fox Creek boys’ basketball
Cannon scored a team-high 22 points 49-44, overtime win over Landrum in the SCHSL state playoffs last week.
