VOTE for the Herald-Tribune Athlete of the Week for May 6-11

Each week The Herald-Tribune staff will select one finalist in each high school sport. Nominees are derived from scores and stats emailed in by Sarasota and Manatee county coaches during the week to htincoming@gmail.com. Readers can then vote in the online poll to determine the Athlete of the Week.

Last week's winner was Saint Stephen's girls lacrosse player Sienna Cassella, winning the April 29-May 4 poll with 67.12% of the vote.

The poll will be posted at heraldtribune.com each Monday, and voting will end at 10 a.m. Friday each week.

The nominees for May 6-11 are:

Baseball

Keegan Duquette, Parrish: In the Bulls' 7-1 Class 5A-Region 3 semifinal victory over Northeast, Duquette pitched a complete game, allowing two hits and one run in seven innings, with nine strikeouts.

Softball

Rylee Little, Parrish: In the Bulls' 10-0 Class 5A-Region 3 quarterfinal victory over Mariner, halted after 4 1/2 innings, Little pitched five innings, allowing one hit, with 13 strikeouts. At the plate, she went 1-2 with 3 RBI.

Track & Field

Terrietta Smith, Booker: At the Class 2A-Region 3 track & field championships, Smith finished first in the girls' 100-meters (12.06). first in the 200 meters (25.02), and anchored Booker's first-place finish in the 4 x 100-meter relay (48.09).

Girls lacrosse

Sienna Cassella, Saint Stephen's: In the Falcons' 16-4 loss to Lake Highland Prep in a Class A state semifinal, Cassella had two goals, six ground balls, one forced turnover, and four draw controls.
