The Coloradoan is proud to present our weekly Athlete of the Week series for this high school year, partnering with Blue Federal Credit Union to honor the best Fort Collins-area high school athletes.

There are five nominees every week, and fans can vote every Monday through Wednesday at coloradoan.com/sports/high-school-sports.

We're heading down the home stretch for the spring sports season, with swimming and tennis state championships wrapped up last week plus track & field incoming this week.

Here is the 28th Athlete of the Week edition of the 2023-24 school year for May 5-11.

You can find the ballot at the bottom of the page. Voting is open until 11 p.m. Wednesday each week, with the winner announced on Thursday at Coloradoan.com/sports.

Fans can nominate top-performing athletes (deadline: 11:59 p.m. every Sunday), and the Coloradoan Sports staff will ultimately select the five nominees each week.

The following athletes are nominated for their performances last week (May 5-11):

  • Kylie Becker, Windsor girls track and field: The Wizards sophomore swept the girls discus and shot put titles at Windsor's 'Wizards' Last Stand' meet. Becker also set a new personal record (36 feet, 1 inch) in the shot put and won both events for the second straight week after sweeping conference championships in the throws.

  • Lily Eisbrener, Timnath girls soccer: The Cubs' freshman was sensational in her playoff debut, combining for five goals with two assists in Timnath's postseason wins over Regis Groff and Frontier Academy, including a hat trick against the former. Eisbrener now ranks among Colorado's top five (all classes) in goals (38) and points (89) this spring.

  • Brennen O'Neil, Fossil Ridge boys swimming: The SaberCats' junior brought home a state title, winning the 5A boys 200-yard individual medley with a new PR time of 1:49.13 in a wire-to-wire victory. O'Neil helped Fossil finish 4th as a team and also place top-five in the 200 and 400 free relays.

  • Nevaeh Rura, Rocky Mountain girls track and field: The Lobos' freshman had a big ramp-up week toward state, sweeping triple and high jump titles at the Wizards' Last Stand and adding a runner-up 100-meter dash finish. She set a new PR (5 feet, 4 inches) in the high jump and also third and fourth in the event at the John Martin Invite and Teddy's Last Chance Qualifier.

  • Kaden Souders, Fort Collins baseball: The Lambkins' sophomore produced seven RBIs with three extra-base hits in Fort Collins' 3-1 week, including a 5-RBI game with a home run in a 20-5 rout of Mountain Range. Souders is now batting .296 with 20 RBIs and eight doubles in his first full varsity season.
