Fans can nominate their favorite athletes (deadline: 11:59 p.m. every Saturday) and the Coloradoan Sports staff will ultimately select the five nominees each week.

If you have nominations for a future Athlete of the Week, please send them via email to ChrisAbshire@coloradoan.com for consideration.

The following athletes were nominated for their performances last week:

  • Austin Barry, Fossil Ridge boys golf: The SaberCats junior turned in another outstanding showing at the Colorado Class 5A state tournament, shooting 2-over-par over two rounds to finish fifth. It was his second straight top-five state finish (and first-team all-state selection) as he helped Fossil Ridge finish fourth as a team.

  • Karli Krueger, Liberty Common girls volleyball: The Eagles senior was dominant in a pair of four-set wins over Timnath and Wellington. Krueger piled up 51 kills, 30 digs, nine aces and five assists to push Liberty Common's win streak to eight.

  • Joel Lopez, Fort Collins football: The Lambkins' senior was seemingly everywhere in a dramatic 34-31 Canvas Classic win over rival Fossil Ridge. Lopez kicked the 38-yard game-winning field goal, made a crucial fourth-down tackle in the final minute and booted four extra points to go along with five kickoff touchbacks.

  • Jack McGuirk, Fort Collins boys soccer: The Fort Collins sophomore standout is racking up the goals right now, scoring a whopping four goals against city rival Poudre last week. He's been the Lambkins' dominant scorer with 13 this season, including three hat tricks in the last four matches.

  • Kensley Story, Wellington softball: The Eagles are headed to the 3A softball playoffs with a dynamic offense, and Story is a key part of it. The Wellington sophomore had two home runs, six hits, two doubles and 6 RBIs last week, including a two-homer game in an 11-8 win over Weld Central.
