Vote for the Ames Tribune female Athlete of the Week candidates for Nov. 5-11

The Ames girls swimming and diving team competed at the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union girls state swimming and diving meet on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA.

The Little Cyclone girls placed fifth 181.5 points. Ames had multiple swimmers place high during their respective races and the Little Cyclones also turned in three strong relay performances.

Ames also had an individual compete during the state diving competition on Friday, Nov. 10.

Here are the Ames Tribune's female Athlete of the Week candidates for Nov. 5-11. AmesTrib.com readers can vote on the winners, who will be announced at the end of the week.

Reese Winer, Ames

Winer placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke and seventh in the 200 individual medley for Ames during the girls state swimming and diving meet.

The senior swam a time of one minute, 4.54 seconds in the breaststroke and 2:09.09 in the IM. She also helped Ames place third in the 200 freestyle relay and fourth in the 200 medley relay with respective times of 1:37.68 and 1:47.63.

Andra Robertson, Ames

Robertson also turned in top-six individual times in the individual medley and breaststroke races for Ames at the girls state swimming and diving meet.

Robertson placed fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.64 and sixth in the breaststroke with a 1:04.80 showing. The Ames junior was also part of the 200 medley relay and she anchored the Little Cyclones to a ninth-place time of 3:36.98 in the 400 freestyle relay.

Riley Snakenberg, Ames

Snakenberg capped an amazing comeback season for the Ames girls swimming and diving team by placing fifth in the 500 freestyle at state for the second year in a row.

Snakenberg, who missed a large chunk of time due to a shoulder injury, clocked in at 5:08.81 during the 500 freestyle finals on Saturday. She was also part of the Little Cyclones' 400 freestyle relay team.

Alex Powers, Ames

Powers stepped up for Ames during multiple relay races at the girls state swimming and diving meet.

Powers swam the third leg during the Little Cyclones' third-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. She also took 11th in the breaststroke with a time of 1:05.91.

Elizabeth Powers, Ames

Alex's older sister picked up some quality points of her own for Ames at the girls state swimming and diving meet.

Elizabeth swam the opening leg of the 200 medley relay and second leg of the 400 freestyle relay. Individually, Elizabeth added a 10th-place time of 59.47 in the 100 butterfly and a 14th-place effort of 1:00.31 in the backstroke.
